Most important is to set clear expectations: goals/KPIs, define roles & responsibilities and ownership of tasks and processes. This helps everyone understand their expected contributions and feel valued within the team. Regular (at least weekly) check-ins with the whole team and open lines of communication help team members feel connected. Use modern collaboration tools and platforms to share information and collaborative documents to facilitate discussions. Create a culture where team members can share their feedback, thoughts and suggestions. Last but not least recognize both individual and team accomplishments. Whether through shout-outs in meetings or a dedicated channel for sharing wins, acknowledgment boosts morale.

During the last pandemic we at ksa used to implement a quick heads-up meeting every 3 hours for a 10 minutes to assure every one is aligned and doing the right tasks and is committed to deliver on time . It proves it’s benefit to the team and the project

When you are managing a remote team, committing additional time to improve communication, connect and team bonding becomes even more important. When you work together at one place, some of these needs are met in the course of ongoing work. Make sure you have a calendar of 'interactions without agenda' where people can share what's happening in their lives and seek support where required. At the end of any major meeting / discussions, make time to go round the table to check if everyone one is aligned with the course of action chosen. Some people are not very assertive in presenting their point of view in a meeting and can benefit from little support. The message to the team should be clear-you are available to them any time they need you.

My personal way to workout the distance is to work in the same way you work when you are with the team fiscally. This brings about a feeling of familiarity that is very useful. So to imprint this into the group you are leading you start by doing the first meetings in person and keeping that "meeting style" during the virtual meetings. I must confess that in time my own style was changed and by now 20 years later I have my own "blended meeting style"
