You might switch to a more powerful hosting plan or expand your server network. Though it may increase costs, this step is crucial to keep your site fast and accessible, much like widening a highway to ease rush hour congestion.

Vertical Scaling (Scaling Up): This involves upgrading your existing servers with better hardware—think more CPU power, extra RAM, or faster storage. It’s like beefing up your current system. Pros: It’s usually easier to implement and requires fewer changes to your application. Cons: There's a ceiling to how far you can go with this, and it can get pricey. Horizontal Scaling (Scaling Out): Here, you're adding more servers to spread out the load, like expanding a highway by adding more lanes to handle heavier traffic. Pros: It’s more flexible, allows you to scale bigger, and often turns out to be cheaper over time. Cons: You may need to tweak your application's architecture to make it work smoothly.

Compress and Minify CSS, JavaScript, and HTML: Minification removes unnecessary characters from your code, such as spaces or comments, without altering how it works. This reduces file sizes, speeding up load times. Optimize Images and Use Appropriate Formats: Images are often the largest part of a page, so optimizing them is essential. PNG for images with fewer colors or transparency

It involves two main approaches: Synthetic Monitoring: Simulates user interactions from various locations and devices, offering proactive testing to catch issues before real users are affected. Real User Monitoring (RUM): Gathers performance data from actual users in real-time, reflecting diverse experiences across different devices and networks.

As I learned from my E-commerce Application, I like to start inspiration from the 5 Ps of peak performance. Predict - Predict the traffic using past data (Seasonal, periodic average, month-over-month growth rate, etc ) Put into the test - test the predicted traffic on current infra - App, DB, Server, Network. Prepare - rebuild infra to handle predicted traffic resolve where the test failed. Scale / Cache / Optimize & whatnot. Practice - follow the best processes & monitor and improve. Protect - secure site with updates and security guidelines, configure WAF, Proxies, DDOS mitigations, and Anti-Bots.
