Data governance is a highly opinionated field. Most professionals thinks that if they understand data then what’s so difficult to understand data governance. I expect people to have a good grasp on its core concepts, policy, structures, R&R, standards and accountability. The main focus is about the “why” part before you can solve “what” and “how”. Data governance in my opinion is a conglomerate of activity or tasks that are driven towards metadata management, data quality and security initiatives and policy implementation. These tasks in the procedure should be well documented when it comes to the data governance policy. I would suggest the team to also attend few webinars since there isn’t much published content available such as books.

It is about the day to day. You need to translate how good data governance help them. If they are in data, they are going to receive less issues from users. If they are users, they are both going to be require to check figures several times. There is going to be a hole system in place to do that for them. Let them answer how much hours they spend in a week in those issues. Translate that in a year and divide by 8, those are days they recover to catch up with e-mails, to synergize with colleagues or to avoid getting out late.
