To safeguard frontline staff when facing risky client requests, consider implementing a safety override protocol. This allows employees to pause tasks or decline requests that compromise safety, without needing immediate managerial approval. It’s valuable because it empowers staff to prioritise their well-being confidently, even under client pressure. In workplace safety, an override protocol establishes a clear boundary, reinforcing that safety is non-negotiable. By giving frontline workers the autonomy to make critical safety decisions, you promote a culture of trust and responsibility, ensuring that safety standards are upheld regardless of external demands.

First review in detail the request, what is the risk? and what is the mitigation? Lead the investigation of the concern, ID the hazard and take action to help mitigate it.. If it is something that is not a fast fix.. implement an efficient and compliant mitigation. Communicate the risk imposed by the request to the proper leaders and show how you mitigated that risk.
