To turn the situation around, I would first have a one-on-one conversation with the team member to understand their concerns. I would actively listen, validate their feelings, and assure them that their contributions are valued. Then, I’d work on recognizing their efforts more publicly and providing constructive feedback regularly. Additionally, I’d explore opportunities for their growth and development within the team, ensuring they feel supported and appreciated moving forward.

Provide your time to listen to this employee. Have a one-on-one with them at least every other week, not to check on their work but to check on them. What did they really enjoy or are proud of since the previous check-in? What do they have coming up next that excites them? Acknowledge their work and give them a forum to talk about the accomplishments you may have missed. Ask them to provide feedback on projects they want to work on; ask for feedback about you as their leader and if there is anything more you can do for them. Keeping the lines of communication open AND active will help them feel valued and appreciated on your team.
