What are the key elements of a successful event feedback survey?

Based on my experience, I collect information about the client in this questionnaire; I offer conditions for participation in the lottery and, most importantly, an example order for the company’s drugs. The attitude towards this part is very important and indicative for further work with the client.

In the feedback surveys I do, I keep my goals very specific. In most cases, I try to find out if I met or exceeded the expectations attendees had from what they thought they were attending. Not much more than that.

You want to keep it short and sweet, or people will balk at filling it out. A Google form is ideal. A face-to-face interview may be uncomfortable for someone who is shy to share negative feedback. Anonymous feedback is ideal, with the option to add an email address for further discussion.

In my experience, it's about getting feedback as close to the participant's experience. If I am doing an in-person program, I often will have short paper surveys. There are minimal obstacles to completing a survey when it's in their hand. For online programs, I use a simple Google Form. Simple is key to receiving relative feedback.

What has worked for me (again, keeping it simple) is a quantitative question asking if the participants felt that the program did not meet expectations, met expectations, or surpassed expectations. On the qualitative side, I've had success asking "I liked . . . " and "I wish . . . " and leave it up to the person completing the survey to interpret however they want to finish that sentence.

In every word of my surveys, I ask if each word is absolutely necessary. Less is better. I want participants to use their energy thinking about their answers and not interpreting what my questions mean.

Yes indeed, mention in event news, participants and so on should be sent to clients participating in an exhibition, forum, and so on..

Are you sure it needs to be a form? Yes, it makes your job so much easier in terms of collecting data but, at least in our case, we try to limit the amount of forms we ask our participants to fill out as much as possible (and it's definitely not easy). But when it comes to post-event feedback, there's so many other ways that can be gathered. Maybe that's the luxury of running small-scale events.

When feedback surveys are complete after one of my programs, I use that compiled data in my debrief with the client who has hired me so that we can analyze together what the data means. Because I do a debrief with every program, it keeps me accountable to provide the very best program every time to ensure my feedback forms are consistently high and to give my client reason to hire me again in the future.
