If you’re about to miss a once-in-a-lifetime event or something time-sensitive like a festival or show, drop everything and prioritize that! But if it's something you can do another day—like a leisurely stroll or an extra scoop of gelato—feel free to reshuffle. Think of it as travel triage: save the day for the big stuff and let the rest slide with a smile. After all, a flexible traveler is a happy traveler!

For any program I always have daily alternatives that can be adjusted to any change in the initial program. On some occasions, that “Plan B” has ended up being the main program option. All of this requires an excellent knowledge of the territory.

Sometimes events will happen that are immediate and out of our control. And much of life is out of our control. Remember the reasons for travel in the first place. Having an experience. A 6 hour delay with a travel arrangement (flight, train, car) can allow for connecting with others and having a great conversation. Those conversations can open new opportunities if you live in the moment. A puncture on a safari vehicle, might delay the daily itinerary for a meal time, but it might just allow you to witness something that unfolds right in front of you. You will still be fed when the puncture has been repaired. How we react to any occurrence in life hinders or improves our experiences
