How can you improve your tone when speaking in front of an audience?

4 things to keep in mind while defining the purpose of your presentation: 1) Understand the topic well, if the topic is very important, your voice should be confident. If not, be little casual and make things relatable. 2) Understanding the audience is very important. If the audience seems interacting, make them interact more, if not focus on your voice modulation 3) Design the presentation keeping the ‘Topic’ and ‘Audience’ in mind. Prepare yourself and work on your voice modulation. 4) After designing check whether the presentation fulfils the purpose. Practice at least 3 times before the final presentation. Give your 100% understanding the topic and audience, once your foundation is strong you are good to go.

Know what you are trying to communicate and know what audience you are speaking to primarily. Typically on Youtube that will be the opposite gender. Appeal to them.

Don't SHOUT at your audience! Ha ha! Seems obvious right? Last week I was speaking at a conference and here was a speaker before me who shouted at his audience for the entire hour. I felt like I needed to put ear plugs in! It was overbearing! I couldn't pay attention. He was speaking on the subject of good communication! ha ha! Why didn't he realise that his voice was so loud? It's all about your eye contact. If you look into the whites of people's eyes and you connect properly and this allows you to judge how loud (or soft) you can go. When you 'fake' your eye contact (which lots of people do - even professional speakers)or when you look anywhere other than the audience's eyes - it's very easy to speak too loud or soft. Tips to control your volume: 1) You fix volume according to the topic: If your topic allows you to speak loudly, do it. If not work on your volume that suits your confident voice. 2) Understand the audience: If the audience is professional and attentive, your volume has to be medium and consistent. 3) Understand Voice Modulation: Understand high pitch and low pitch, Understand when to take a pause and how much to pause between two statements. Work on your voice modulation and you’ll do wonders. 4) Practice, Practice and Practice: If you are presenting for the first time, you need to practice the whole presentation in front of the mirror at least thrice. *Note: If you are going to present with a mic, train your voice to accordingly.

Many a times we don’t pay attention to the sounds we make while presenting. Those sounds come from our subconscious mind. Body language while we were presenting and Timings of High and low pitch. We don’t notice it most of the time but others will. Make sure to ask for a feedback/ constrictive criticism to the person who is a good listener and observer once you are done presenting. Feedback helps to improve and communicate better next time.
