How can building professional relationships help your career growth?

I’d like to phase this differently. I don’t believe in having a full scale objective in building relationships. I believe you should identify your 5 point circle. These are 5 professional individuals you admire for their professional capabilities. Then focus on building your relationship with them.

Mein Tipp: Lieber nur einem oder zwei Netzwerken beitreten und dafür regelmässig an den Anlässen teilnehmen. So entstehen langfristige Kontakte, die sich vertiefen lassen. Ausserdem begegnet man über einen längeren Zeitraum hinweg immer wieder denselben Menschen und kann sich so gegenseitig über die Entwicklung der Branche oder des Unternehmens auf dem Laufenden halten. Das ist hilfreicher als eine Momentaufnahme durch eine einmalige Begegnung.

This is easier said than done, but I’d like to restate it. REACH OUT. You must put your name in the game to play and a chance to win. I’d also like to pose multiple approaches. You can ask to be on the same project as them. You can ask to volunteer in a group they are in.

I agree with the statements above and would alter the order. Being generous and helpful is more valuable than ensuring reciprocity. Sharing information is reciprocal but receiving from one and paying forward to another is more rewarding. Join a group of your peers in the industry. Let all know you are open to conversation about non competitive points of interest. Offer date/times. I’ve engaged people directly and set regular meetings monthly. Don’t always be a taker.

Look for genuine connection. When you approach every relationship with genuine intentions you will see building rapport, memories, and trust happens naturally.
