In my experience for many reasons including crunched time and schedule/budget many effective team miss an opportunity to learn by inspecting the journey through the lens of learning and fail to summarise those which help adapting not only for future assignments but also for current perspectives of work and job-role. In my opinion- reflecting, learning and adapting are exit criteria for every project irrespective of outcomes on those assignments

As I have worked in IT for more than 34 years, mostly as a consultant, I have discovered that the best method to work within conflictive situations is to keep your head down and just keep doing your job even if you are sure the project is going to fail if you don't say anything. It is so much easier to blame the consultant and let them go than for perm employees to take responsibility and or change that that is the best way to go. Do not make waves. Your job is to keep your job, that is your only job. Also working with difficult, sociopathic individuals, you encounter trying to climb to the top of their hierarchy, as soon as you spot them, stay as far away from them as possible. Do not speak to them and look for another job right away.
