Some businesses I have recruited for over the years have asked me to take the name off the profile, and to neutralise gender-specific language. The results were very interesting. Some managers recognised that they were selecting more women than before, for interview at least. There wasn't a significant difference in the hiring trend however. One client saw an increase in candidates from African backgrounds, but no real difference for any other continent. Would you dare to try this? If not, why not? There isn't really a good reason not to in my opinion.

When you consciously build a multi-disciplinary team, unless you really make all the team members feel included, they will start to leave your team slowly. One example of practising inclusion is to demystify acronyms that you might habitually use in your team. If you use a lot of technical jargon and acronyms in your day-to-day interactions with your team members, that will put off non-technical team members you have actively recruited into your team. You could address this situation by widely publishing the list of acronyms so that all team members (new or old, technical or non-technical) will feel included as they will begin to understand what is being talked about. The thing about AI is that it has become the narrative. So much so that anyone can be forgiven for a little imposter syndrome at the thought of joining such a team. The irony is that, the most effective teams, at least from a business perspective, can map their output directly onto the positive performance of the business. Put another way, team goals are measured on business performance, and not AI. To create the most performance orientated AI team, as a manager, you need a diverse set of skills. A business architect, data engineer, data scientist, software engineer, and architect. Don't forget about Dev Ops and testing too. Business Performance is the key.
