Most people are overwhelmed with information and therefore to get their attention you need to make it relevant, i.e. understand their needs and objectives and provide examples of how it impacts them and why it is important.

Things I consistently find helpful in all stakeholder communications is to ensure your written communication feels authentic to your verbal communication. I take time to develop relationships with my stakeholders, noting diversities and revealing my personality. I learn their language rather than always imposing my own! When they receive a written communication from me the importance level will be evident from the language. However, I do not shy away from adding personality even to the accute messaging - not to trivialise but to reassure. They understand that even despite the urgency, we can take the calm structured approach we would use if it was BAU. Reminding them it’s just me, but in ‘serious control’ gives them (I hope) comfort.
