How bout: Stop Pitching. Don't be a "bot". Be a REAL human who's real interesting. How to be real interesting? Be more interested in others than you are yourself. Be a MASTER question asker. Tune In. Respond appropriately. Oh, and hey, Schedule a 1 to 1 - right there, on the spot. It's during the 1 to 1 time you SHARE. Don't pitch. Don't ever pitch. THEN you'll be memorable. IMHO :)

I’m not an advocate of elevator pitches or pitches in general. You want to be memorable, be engaging. Ask deep ,thought provoking questions. Be Yourself. Help others get introduced. Bring others into a delightful conversation. There’s plenty of opportunities to talk about How and Why you do what you do

Be able to clearly (and concisely) articulate what you do, and who you do it for. Test your elevator pitch out on a friend or two. Do it correctly and they'll ask questions. Networking is not a sales activity. The goal of meeting someone at an event is to decide if there are synergies and a need to have one-on-one. Remember that half of communicating is listening. To leave a positive impression, offer help - connect them someone that might need their help, share an article they might find of interest, tell them about another event they might enjoy. Be a giver. Self-evaluate - after every engagement, ask yourself, "Did I talk too much? Does that person ever want to talk to me again?" Follow up with a LinkedIn connection request.

Engage people by telling a story that they could see themselves in or stirs an emotional response. It could be a client experience, a personal experience, or a community connection. Instead of saying, “Do you know anybody…”, instead say, “Who do you know…” at the end being specific who you would like to connect with.

How about... have a good elevator pitch that's customized to the situation and is designed to get the other person to talk back? Too many of us talk all about our company, how long it's been in business, how great our customer service is... which is exactly what your competitors do so it falls on dead ears.
