Every individual is unique and will have their own aspiration and motivation- in case of a power struggle, it would be useful for the lead/ senior members to understand the root cause of the problem, and, how to solve the same while addressing the individual expectations to the extent possible. I have seen that open communication/ feedback, followed by agreement on clear actions and a commitment to adhere to the same mostly resolves the problem.

I have been involved in several in-house software development projects for meeting internal control requirements for the organisation and my experience has been that getting cross functional stakeholders to understand and align with the end goal of the project in terms of the value creation which results from the implementation of the project and keeping the team members focused and conscious of the shared end goal is key to effectively managing power struggles and divergent interests within the cross functional project team.
