As the task is urgent, you will have to take decision really quick. If fail fast is not an option and issue is with capability of the individual, you will have to assign someone with that individual who has the capability to perform the task. This would help the individual learn also during that process. If capability is not an issue and there are external factors affecting progress, understand those and coach your member navigate out of those hurdles.

Identify the blockers - asking what challenges if removed, can help deliver their part of the task For the occasional delay, this is usually all that is needed, if it becomes an ongoing issue, then Stakeholder Management 101 kicks in 1. Setting expectations and asking how the team member sees the delivery going - this gets them to craft the path forward and they’re more likely to complete the task 2. Establish ‘Why’ a particular deliverable is needed. Ensure you are driving vision & purpose to help get the buy in.
