My authority? Authority is with the team. Instead, engage the team in defining the goals, tasks, roles, etc., so that they are engaged, maintain ownership and develop commitment.

In my experience, always maintain the appropriate temperament, so that your team appreciates your presence even in the most awkward and/or challenging environments. Illustrate your approach through the team, so they feel empowered and/or supported in a manner that would neutralize the skeptical member. Foster collaborative leadership by inviting each team member to play a role in the company's short term goals. The former demonstrates trust and confidence in each personnel, thus minimizing the effect of any questionable behavior by the skeptical member. Its all about being strategic!

Dealing with a skeptical team member requires balancing authority with inclusivity to maintain harmony. Begin by understanding their concerns through a private, respectful conversation, demonstrating empathy while clarifying expectations. Reaffirm your role as a leader by confidently outlining the team’s goals and the rationale behind key decisions. Encourage open dialogue in team settings to make them feel heard and valued, fostering collaboration. Set clear boundaries and accountability measures to ensure alignment with team objectives.
