"Motivation" is not something you can rely on. I was never motivated to "get into AI". I only get into AI because I was curious about the pieces of it. How does machine learning work? What is a support vector machine? What is a kernel method? How does backpropagation work? What's the point of random seed? How does a partial derivative help me make my neural nets better? etc. You have to be *curious* about the things your field relies on. If your "motivation" is anything other than the desire to solve interesting problems, you're done for right out the gate, you're going to get lapped by the people who are curious about the work, and not to "get into AI".
