1. Always keep "top of mind" when building professional relations. Carry on conversations to find the common "bond" 2. Prioritizing quantity over quality 3. Failing to follow up with contacts is the biggest mistake. It takes seconds to send an email or text message. It's not always about Sales but building relationships. 5. Using social media inappropriately. Get to know the people you meet online just as you would if you met in real life. It doesn't happen instantly. That's why building relationships matter! 6. Be genuine in conversation you're involved in. Be yourself! 7. Not leveraging existing connections is another mistake. You already have a relationship. Use it to your advantage 8. Not setting clear networking goals is another one!

Um dos erros que mais cometemos é confundirmos amizade com networking. Aqueles que conhecem e até são muito próximos de inúmeras pessoas, costumam acreditar que também construíram uma rede de apoio profissional. Mas criar relacionamento com o mercado requer estratégia, objetivos, iniciativas, consistência e entrega de valor. Você precisa se aproximar de uma rede diversa de pessoas. Pessoas nas quais devem conhecer o valor do seu trabalho, para conseguirem falar sobre ele, espontaneamente, caso haja oportunidade.

A mission or endeavor without a goal should not be shocking if it comes out without desired result. The goals set for every career are meant to be pursuit step after steps to ensure networking can be use as a critical tool to build it but when there is no goal on what you want to offer to a network of people, the energy for effective networking will not strive.

Networking still remains one of the best ways to build and grow professional relationships and careers. Networking mistakes that can hurt career growth include: 1. When the relationship is one sided. This is taking, taking and giving nothing back. 2. When you do not contribute value to the relationship. 3. When you waste people's time. 4. When other people perceive that you are using them or want to use them to get what you want. 5. Not following up can be a big deal breaker in networking relationships. 6. When you do not have something in common with people you are networking with.

O networking deve ser genuíno e focado em adicionar valor às pessoas envolvidas e a entregas e propósitos compartilhados. Ele deve ser consistente e potente, de forma que as conexões envolvidas gerem valor entre si e propiciem a troca e o crescimento mútuos. Portanto, o networking deve ser, selecionado, adicionado, reavaliado e longevo. Sim, como as relações de amizade, aqueles que caminham conectados ao seu propósito são os que devem fazer parte do seu networking. Somente assim haverá verdade, validade e sentido!

Building relationships may indeed be a relatively straightforward task, but sustaining and nurturing those relationships over time, especially in the context of professional networking, can be more challenging. It very essential that when you network with people start on a realistic honest note and genuinely seek support and be willing to contribute. It should be a win-win situation.

The other part of the deficiency is the inability to follow up with the network. A warm friendly text or call at an agreed time without constituting a nuisance to the network. Offer value to make you attractive to relate with each time they see your contact or your products.

As mentioned above, keep up with those connections. Whether it’s on a social platform like this or personal number. It’s always great to check up on others and make sure you exist somewhere in their mind. Our leaders meet thousands of others just like you, make sure you make your mark, and make yourself known.

Ghosting after the initial connection? Building genuine relationships takes time and effort. Be the networker who engages, remembers, and follows up!

When the answer they gave themselves is nothing worthy, they may consider an individual as weak people's manager.

I have been helped by numerous selfless professionals/people in my career without expecting anything in return. During my early part of my career, I didn't offer much value in return, but people helped me. I would like to pay this forward. If you want something, just ask. But don't abuse the givers. :)

I see this happen too many times, people come to me for referrals and/or opportunities without offering anything in return. This is an absolutely a two way street, if you can't offer something in return now, make sure to verbalize that and let the 'helping' party know that you will absolutely be there for them when the time comes.

Networking é sobre troca. As vezes sei que conhecemos uma pessoa que está "muito acima da gente" e pensamos que não podemos oferecer nada, mas nós podemos, sempre podemos. Networking não é uma relação de parasita, é uma relação de protocooperação.

Not being authentic - is the number 1 mistake, in my opinion. Everything else is manageable. If you are not being authentic, you will be find out very quickly :) Trust: Lack of authenticity erodes trust and it can harm your relationship and reputation. Support: If people feel that you are being inauthentic, they may not collaborate or support you. Long-term impact: In the long run, lack of authenticity may catch up with you, affecting your credibility and building or managing meaningful connections.

Being a photocopy or carboncopy of anything is a self-initiated attack on creativity and innovative growth. As a people's manager, you indeed need to be original in thoughts, approach, reasoning and at solutions offering. Nobody wants to listen to repetition of ideas, leadership and protocol of things. New spices on the table each time is the real game, lets try it out and wait for the outcome, that is how a team grow under a people's manager.

This is tricky. If you are an introvert, networking is hard. Your attempts will make you feel as not authentic as well! If you try to force the issue - it will backfire. However it is important that you find the best way to connect. Given the different digital mediums you have, not necessarily you have to network in person. You may be comfortable on chat/ blogs/ videos and they all still count. I recently learned a very unique take away - when you end the conversation ask how you can help. And genuinely try to do so. You will have a strong last impression with the individual and most probably he/she will return the favor to you in future.

Nobody likes a walking encyclopedia who hogs the conversation. Be a good listener, ask thoughtful questions, and be open to learning from others

This is the worst in my opinion. People dread networking because of the people out there who ask you scripted questions but don't listen, only talk to you because they have some agenda and are not at all interested in you. Here is what authentic network looks like: - Leverage Your Strengths: For example, introverts tend to thrive in one-on-one conversations. Extroverts, on the other hand, excel in group settings. - Focus on Giving, Not Getting: You offering your talents or services is more genuine and fosters more genuine connections. - Build Relationships Gradually: It's about forging meaningful connections, not collecting business cards. - Be Curious: Genuine curiosity in others sparks engaging, natural conversations.

It is possible for a people's manager to have a network in the past and rely solely on that which is not bad but there is something way better than that, that is increasing your circle of influence through your network, increase in capacity and value, demonstrate competence and attract more quality networks to your brand as a people's manager.

Approaching every connection with a "what can you do for me?" attitude is a major turn-off. Offer value first, build trust, and let opportunities unfold naturally.

Sticking to a familiar group might feel comfortable, but it limits opportunities. I learned to step out of my comfort zone and connect with people from different industries, backgrounds, and experience levels. This diversity has enriched my professional and personal life.

It's easy to grow a network, but how about keeping the relationship alive? That's the hardest part. When you build those connections, make sure to nurture and grow them. Send those holiday wishes and birthday wishes. It's the little things that count when you want to maintain a relationship.

It's easy to lose touch with contacts, but I've found that regularly reaching out, even just to check in or share something of interest, keeps the relationship alive and beneficial.

"Fazer network" deveria ser diferente de "me relacionar por interesse único e primariamente meu". Estabelecer uma rede, necessita sempre de uma via de mão dupla! Eu preciso ter valor à oferecer para as pessoas daquela rede, para depois usufruir dos valores dos outros membros dessa mesma rede. No Linkedin mesmo, muitas das pessoas te convidam para conexão, mas na verdade elas querem apenas é vender algo, ou consumir alguma vantagem que você possuí; isso não é sustentável, os pontos de contato não são fortes (nas duas vias), e por isso, faz com que não seja uma rede. Portanto, ao entrar em uma rede, certifique-se de que pode gerar valor primeiro, caso contrário, não entre (ou esteja disposto à se preparar para poder gerar valor também).

While networking you meet and connect with a lot of diverse people. A key component while networking is communication which is crisp, clear, transparent, collaborative and constructive. You need to understand and know the people, their professional background and restrict yourself to not cross boundaries and be over talkative or pushy. For a positive impact you need to know your goals and move forward to connect with the right industry and right minds. Its also very important you listen and share your insights. You can also talk about your experiences and learnings and ask for feedback. Keep upgrading and learning about new innovations and market trends. Keep following up with your network with a casual Hi’s and Hello’s.

Besides all the considerations above, I highly recommend these things: 1) Study (focus on content) -> it is important to stay up to date on different topics. Study and understand topics your network also like to know (so you always have subjects to talk with them). To be interesting, be interested. 2) Avoid derailing other colleagues in the back -> prefer complements over derailing people from your network. Excessive gossip is not good for strong relationships

Fazer Networking é se conectar ao outro. Primeiro seja generoso primeiro. Busque informações e conhecimento primeiro. Nunca pedir algo logo de cara. (isso se chama interesse ou pedir favor) Além disso, seja disponível. Ninguém é um SUPERSTAR que está isolado no mundo. Aja com humildade e gentileza, sempre.

Being too loyal can hinder your career growth. Nobody likes to say it but shopping around can sometimes get your career on a faster track than staying where you are. Know your worth and ensure your employer knows it too

This insight will empower you to make an informed decision about your need for professional growth and the pursuit of a new position, or whether your current role already aligns with your aspirations and capabilities.

Utilizing social media effectively is crucial in today's networking landscape. However, it's important not to over-rely on digital interactions; face-to-face meetings can forge stronger connections. Also, being respectful of others' time and boundaries is vital in professional networking.

“Let your egos make the decision” as it would lead to short term gains vs. meaningful long term impact. On the other side of the spectrum: “let your fear guide you” as, again, this is the emotional part of the brain that is responsible. To avoid it, set criteria and use your intuition only once you have evaluated your choices against those criteria (Daniel Kahneman, Nobel Prize on decision making)
