I find that "electric" recordkeeping in a database is often overkill. A grocery bag full of sticky notes is ample for any business need. And it is infinitely scalable with some brown paper, string, thumbtacks, and enough wall space — provided you have the ingenuity. And the first two you already have for the holidays! It's cross functional!

MongoDB (and other schema-less DB) weren't designed to store unstructured data, they were designed to avoid JOINs over the network so that we can scale horizontally without the network bottleneck. To achieve this you have to embrace data duplication and/or the lack of normalisation. I'd show awareness of the underlying problem in an interview, why the tech solves the problem and the evolution of it, and then give a real world use case of it. Back it up with some references to attendance to Mongo University and certification on the topic. Et Voila!

I start an interview with - Briefing - Which DBMS that interviewee used and familiar the most. - Compare them if they have used more than 1 - How to design a table (with their experience) - What is stored procedure - What is trigger - What is job Normally those questions are enough for us to understand the experience of interviewee. May be all of my jobs require standard level in DB. If the job require high skill in DB we should make a test for them to show more.

In my experience the application is not being utilized to its potential or even 50% of its capabilities and every department is using it differently, so trying to get detailed graphs, charts and matrix are for more challenging. I then provide a gap analysis on how the application should be used to provide the reporting they are requesting.
