With Slack, Teams, Mattermost.... many people focus on processes, manual activities by people. However, not everyone sees a process the same way. Try out workflows/automation/webhooks. Have your switch system's real time thresholds set, where automatic alerts are sent via your groupware tools. Why stop there? Use workflow for other use cases, like escalation queueing/documentation, or other process enhancements. Process and procedure is tough, but it can be made to be a pleasure, for those who interact with the system. Just take your time, get your business requirements ironed out/documented, then work with your technology teams to make magic happen!

I've worked in companies where Slack apps like Zapier are used to integrate Slack with tools such as Zendesk, Sprinklr, External Databases, GoogleSheets, etc. to automate RTA tasks such as generating intraday status reports of email backlogs and SLAs. I've also seen Slack apps designed to act as attendance lines, allowing CSRs/TLs to report real-time unplanned shrinkage such as lateness and absenteeism, and even acting as funnels for PTO requests that could be then automatically approved/denied in bulk based on pre-defined FTE requirements. Important: Slack is a flexible tool that could be fine-tuned to provide some kind of WFM support, but it will be pretty much impossible for it to add the same amount of control as a dedicated WFM tool.

I've seen Slack reminders that autogenerate funny GIFs to keep people engaged. I think this is a clever way to incentivize people to look at those recurrent reminders that can otherwise turn monotonous and get easily ignored.

I've noticed that creating Slack user groups is a great way to avoid unnecessary notifications. People tend to go to Slack channels and use the @All command to get support which creates an alert to all members of the channel regardless if they are part of the targeted support team or if they are mere customers of the process. For example, we created the @WFM slack group so that requestors could notify only the WFM team every time they needed our support. That way spam to other users could be avoided.

Surely I can't be the only one seeing the irony in slack being an article topic in effective WFM lol. I guess that's what happens when a Tech company's AI is suggesting the discussion topics.
