I agree that an emergency drill causes stress and can lead to conflicts, we actually had a lost time injury during a drill a few years ago as one employee just panicked and ran in the work area and stepped into hot solution. What I found that works, is to have the safety representatives in the work area properly briefed before the drill and having them guide the employees during the drill, the conflicts between employees are also better addressed if there is proper guidance and leadership during the drills.

Clear Communication and Preparation Pre-Drill Briefings: Brief employees on the drill’s objectives, importance, and their roles to reduce confusion. Clear Instructions: Provide written instructions and training on emergency actions. Simulate Realistic but Controlled Scenarios Scenario Design: Create realistic yet manageable scenarios to challenge employees without overwhelming them. Controlled Environment: Start with simpler drills and increase complexity gradually to build confidence. Debriefing After the Drill Feedback Sessions: Hold debriefings where employees can discuss what went well and areas for improvement. Conflict Resolution: Address any conflicts during the drill and emphasize teamwork.
