To address an employee’s fatigue concerns, consider implementing a fatigue risk management system (FRMS). This involves monitoring work hours, rest periods, and signs of fatigue through self-reporting and manager observations, with adjustments made as needed. It’s valuable because it recognises fatigue as a critical safety issue, offering a structured approach to mitigating risks while maintaining productivity. In workplace safety, FRMS ensures that workloads and schedules are balanced to prioritise well-being. By actively managing fatigue risks, you create a supportive environment where employees feel heard, ensuring both their safety and operational effectiveness are maintained.

Review the Roster Patterns and Workload to develop an understanding of the Factors leading to Fatigue. In addition, assess the out-of-Work contributing Factors. Once I have an understanding of the Factors causing Fatigue, a Plan to minimize the impact can be put in place. Adjustments to the Workload and Roster can be done. Other Factors i.e Temperature and Humidity, which also have an impact, need to be considered and exposure to these Elements should be limited. Providing guidance, support and Information on Diet, eating Habits, sufficient Sleep, taking Breaks during Shifts and also changing the Roster Pattern are Actions that can be taken. Fatigue poses a serious Injury Risk and its potential Consequences must never be ignored.
