Young Professionals Programme (YPP)
Through the implementation of the ITU Youth Strategy, we are excited to launch the ITU Young Professionals Programme (YPP). The ITU YPP is focused on training the next generation of global ICT experts and leaders to help shape the future of the tech sector – standards, policies, regulations and recommendations. With this 2-year program, young, brilliant individuals will be exposed to understand technology, regulatory and policy issues and learn how it works in practice. Young experts will contribute to bridging the digital divide and leveraging technology for the benefit of society. The ITU YPP will support emerging talent to work across three Sectors and the General Secretariat.
Find out more about the YPP on the ITU Jobs Webpage.
Who is eligible for the program?
To be eligible for the program, applicants must be a National from ITU Member States, be available to cover the 24-month assignment, and be between 18-30 years old at the time of application.
The YPP program aims to bring young experts from underrepresented countries to work with the ITU. Therefore, individuals from developing countries, LDCs, LLDCs, and SIDS will be given priority.

Research Agenda with Universities:
The pilot was launched in 2021 with the objective of creating long-term student/youth engagement in ITU’s work through research collaboration with universities and research institutes (based on the capstone model). This initiative helps to raise awareness about ITU’s work and provides young people with an opportunity to collaborate with a community of policymakers, private sector members, and academia members; prepare a young generation of experts who are informed about the latest trends in ICTs, policy, regulatory issues and key areas of ITU’s work. Examples of collaboration with ITU’s Pilot Research Agenda include the Graduate Institute, Switzerland; American University, Washington, D.C., USA; and EU Business School, Switzerland. Please contact [email protected] if you are interested to work with ITU on a research agenda topic. The pilot includes topics related to capacity development, cybersecurity, digital inclusion, digital innovation ecosystems, environment, emergency telecommunications, policy and regulation.
Student researchers from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, Switzerland, have looked at how information and communication technologies (ICTs) can boost climate action in Africa’s energy and agriculture sectors. Learn more here.
