My Spartan Story: Documenting Co-Curricular Learning on the Spartan Experience Record
My Spartan Story, Michigan State University's co-curricular record, formally recognizes and supports student learning beyond the classroom. Launched in 2020, the record documents student engagement and learning in non-credit-bearing activities such as leadership positions, on-campus jobs, internships, research projects, community engagement, and other out-of-class learning experiences. As a university-wide initiative at a large, decentralized campus, we have seen incredible growth from 200 positions to nearly 600 in under two years in partnership with faculty and staff. Once verified, students can request their Spartan Experience Record (SER) alongside their transcript through the Registrar’s Office, providing students with a shareable record of their knowledge and skill development. The session will introduce you to the foundations of the co-curricular record, lessons learned launching a university-wide initiative, and opportunities for continued and sustained growth of the record.

SUNY’s Story: Scaling Microcredentials Across the Largest Comprehensive Higher Ed System in the U.S.
The State University of New York (SUNY) was one of the first University systems or institutions in the country to adopt a system-wide policy on microcredentials in 2018. Making our way up hills big and small—and an international pandemic—the concept of microcredentials as a valuable credential for existing students and employees, alumni, prospective students (especially adult learners), and the employees of our business (P-12 and community partners) has taken hold. SUNY saw tremendous growth in the past year, with micro-credentials now offered at 31 of its 64 campuses and an online directory providing easy access to more than 400 microcredentials. This session will highlight SUNY’s policy framework as the foundation for that growth and share highlights and lessons learned from across sectors of campuses.

Expert Perspectives on Implementing a CLR
Take a deep dive into how institutions develop and implement a comprehensive learner record (CLR) to support their needs.
Each of the institutions represented has a different goal for their CLR program. Still, all are leveraging a consistent data standard to expand the reach, usability, adoptability, and interoperability of a CLR created by any institution.
This session complements the recently released “Implementation of the 1EdTech Comprehensive Learner Record Standard: A Practical Guide for Campus Personnel” written by an AACRAO workgroup to help registrars, admissions officers, student affairs professionals, and campus IT personnel as they implement and share CLRs.
