Social Media Warns Maya Rudolph Not To Do This 1 Thing On 'SNL' This Week

Elections have consequences, even for comedy shows.

It’s hard to say how “Saturday Night Live” will riff on the election results this week, but some people have named one thing they hope the show doesn’t do.

As results in favor of President-elect Donald Trump rolled in Tuesday night, people couldn’t help but recall a similar feeling as 2016, when he prevailed over Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton — and the polarizing sketch that followed.

For those with a short memory, the first “SNL” episode after Trump won the 2016 election featured Kate McKinnon dressed as Clinton performing “Hallelujah.”

Tuesday night’s echoes of 2016 made some on social media wonder if Maya Rudolph, who has been portraying Vice President Kamala Harris on the long-running comedy show, would take a seat at the piano.

SNL should have Maya Rudolph sing Hallelujah this week. like, if we’re gonna relive 2016, let’s really go for it, eh?

in a different context, i wouldn't mind seeing Maya Rudolph sing Hallelujah. she has a really nice singing voice

Rudolph was recently joined by the Democratic presidential candidate during the show’s cold open in its most recent episode.

If she is in this week’s episode, which is being hosted by Bill Burr, it will undoubtedly be top secret until 11:30 p.m. Saturday night.

HuffPost reached out to NBC to see if Rudolph will continue to portray Harris this season, but no one immediately responded.

However, many were adamant that the show not take the same approach as it did in 2016.

SNL if you make Maya Rudolph sing in front of that fucking piano.

As long as Maya Rudolph doesn’t have to sing “Hallelujah” as a cold open. https://t.co/Tckr9Gd1Zq

I believe Maya Rudolph is actually smart enough to not replicate this as Kamala singing Amazing Grace or whatever https://t.co/yJOH8FegnX

MAYA RUDOLPH!!! DON'T SIT DOWN AT THAT PIANO THIS SATURDAY NIGHT!!! DON'T SING A SLOW, SOMBER RENDITION OF "PINK PONY CLUB" IN A PANTSUIT!!!!! pic.twitter.com/JxUr7UFNaf

Others tried to forecast Rudolph choosing a more relevant tune for 2024.

Maya Rudolph cold opens with a somber performance of Apple by Charli XCX

Kate Mackinnon sang Hallelujah because Leonard Cohen had just died, so this week we'll have Maya Rudolph singing a mournful version of the Austin Powers theme

— JuiceOne (@JuiceSimpsons) November 6, 2024

maya rudolph comes out on snl and does a piano version of girl, so confusing

Meanwhile, others were just bummed Rudolph wouldn’t get to provide comic relief on “SNL” for the next four to eight years.

Let’s get Maya Rudolph and Kate McKinnon at that piano @nbcsnl. It’s time for a “Hallelujah” duet. The nation must heal and congratulate our president on his victory, and two strong beautiful women dressed as his fallen enemies singing a very sad song would be truly beautiful. ❤️

I’ll never forgive the American people for this election. We could’ve had four more years of Maya Rudolph on SNL. It would’ve been glorious.

Has anyone checked on Maya Rudolph today? pic.twitter.com/ou1namhJZz

Has anyone checked on Maya Rudolph? She may be the biggest loser of the 2024 election.

She goes from a regular gig impersonating Kamala Harris on SNL for the next 4-8 years to she basically getting fired yesterday.

What a rollercoaster!
