An integrated care board chair has announced he will step down this spring after an extended period of ill health.

David Sissling will leave his roles as chair of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland integrated care system and co-chair of the integrated care partnership board in March.

Mr Sissling said: “Over the past year, I have been experiencing a range of health problems, most notably persistent, severe headaches, which appeared to be linked to the brain haemorrhage I suffered a few years ago.

“After very careful reflection, I have decided that it would not be right for me to continue in this demanding role.

“It has been a privilege and honour to have been part of the LLR system over the last three years. We have achieved much together as an ICS, and I have no doubt that this will continue in the future.”

Mr Sissling has chaired LLR ICS since January 2021 when it was still in shadow form. He has also worked in the NHS across England, Wales and Northern Ireland in various senior executive roles over the last 30 years.

The LLR ICB has also recently lost its long-standing CEO Andy Williams, who retired at the end of 2023

LLR ICB interim CEO Caroline Trevithick added: “We are very sorry that David is leaving the ICB and would like to wish him all the best with his health. During his time in LLR, David has demonstrated remarkable commitment and leadership, and he will be greatly missed. We would like to thank him for his support over the last three years.”

In a statement, LLR confirmed a new chair will be in place by the early summer.
