Shrinking has booked more sessions at Apple.
The therapy comedy starring Jason Segel has been renewed for a third season at the streamer. The news comes on the heels of Tuesday’s season two launch.
Created by Segel with Bill Lawrence and Brett Goldstein — the latter, who joined the cast in a key guest role for the second season — the cast also includes Harrison Ford in one of his first television roles.
The renewal news was announced Thursday at New York Comic Con when Segel and Goldstein — along with castmembers Christa Miller, Jessica Williams, Luke Tennie, Michael Urie, Lukita Maxwell and Ted McGinley — took the Main Stage for a discussion around season two, which is now streaming its first two episodes.

“I’m so lucky to work on Shrinking with actors, writers and a crew so talented that they all elevate the material,” said co-creator and executive producer Lawrence in a statement. “I’m even luckier that they are people I’d want to spend time with anyway. Huge thanks to to Apple TV+ and Warner Bros. for the amazing partnership and support. So grateful we get to keep making this show. Onward!”
Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV+, added: “It has been wonderful to watch audiences around the world fall in the love with the memorable characters and rich world that Bill, Brett and Jason have created. We are incredibly excited for viewers to see where life takes Jimmy, Paul, Liz, Gabby, Alice, Sean, Brian and Derek, next as they continue on their moving, heartwarming and very funny journey in season three.”
Shrinking follows grieving therapist Jimmy (Segel) who starts to break the rules and tell his clients exactly what he thinks. Ignoring his training and ethics, he finds himself making huge, tumultuous changes to people’s lives, including his own. The first season ended on a major cliffhanger.
Lawrence and his co-creators have said they pitched Shrinking to Apple with a three-season plan, but in a season two premiere chat with The Hollywood Reporter, Lawrence said that perhaps they wouldn’t stop at three.
“I was talking to my great partners at Apple,” he said in a story published this week. “If they want to keep doing Shrinking, I would totally keep doing it. I just think that the story of Jason Segel’s character, Jimmy’s wife dying and dealing with that and getting through that, if you’re after six years, still going, ‘I’m still sad about that thing that happened five years ago,’ I’m like, ‘All right, you gotta tell a new story.'”
Lawrence also recently wrapped the first season of his Bad Monkey comedy with Apple, marking his third project with the streamer following the Emmy-winning Ted Lasso, which remains up in the air on a season four. “I’m going to politely say I’m in for whatever the captain of the ship wants me to be in for,” Lawrence added about Jason Sudeikis being the one who will ultimately reveal if and when they will do more Ted Lasso. “There will be a plan put into action soon, but so far the plan is not in action,” Goldstein, who also stars on Ted Lasso, recently echoed to THR.
Segel, meanwhile, previously starred in Apple movie The Sky is Everywhere.
Shrinking is produced for Apple TV+ by Warner Bros. Television, where Lawrence and Goldstein are under overall deals and Lawrence’s Doozer Productions. Lawrence, Segel, Goldstein, Neil Goldman, James Ponsoldt, Jeff Ingold, Liza Katzer, Randall Winston, Annie Mebane, Rachna Fruchbom and Brian Gallivan, Ashley Nicole Black and Bill Posley are executive producers.
New episodes of Shrinking drop Wednesdays on Apple TV+ until the finale on Dec. 25. Read THR’s full season two chat with Lawrence.
