In the first look at the second season of Apple TV+‘s therapist comedy Shrinking, grieving dad Jimmy (Jason Segel) confesses that he thinks his daughter, Alice (Lukita Maxwell), is worried about him.
Later in the same video, Alice expresses her own concerns about her dad: “I can’t stop thinking he’s gonna go back to the way he was after mom died.”
Jimmy and Alice are both shown (separately) sharing their fears with Harrison Ford‘s Paul, Jimmy’s fellow therapist.
In response to Jimmy’s concerns, Paul, who viewers discovered in season one has also been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease as he tries to reconnect with his own family, says, “It’s rough to realize your kid knows how fragile you are.”

Paul is elsewhere seen advising Jimmy, “Why don’t you try and stick to conventional therapy? Try and be normal.”
He later says, “It’s not your patients’ job to heal you.”
The trailer also shows Jimmy dealing with some of the consequences from his unconventional therapy in the first season.
After season one ended with Heidi Gardner’s Grace, one of Jimmy’s patients, pushing her husband off a cliff, viewers see Grace sporting an orange jumpsuit and behind bars as she meets up with Jimmy and his lawyer friend Brian (Michael Urie).
“I pushed my husband off a cliff. I’m a psycho with good hair,” she says.
And during a therapy session, Sean (Luke Tennie) says, “You’re not going to start ‘jimmying’ me? … You know that weird therapy you do outside of the office that Paul hates?”
Jimmy likes having his name turned into a verb, saying, “It just sounds like a movement.”
The trailer also indicates that Jimmy and Gaby (Jessica Williams)’s relationship is still going strong as the two flirt in the break room after she sees his “sex boxers” peeking out from the top of his jeans.
“Dress for the job you want,” Jimmy says.
The 12-episode second season of Shrinking premieres Oct. 16 on Apple TV+ with two episodes, followed by one episode dropping each week until Dec. 25.
The show was created by Segel, Bill Lawrence and Brett Goldstein, with Goldstein set to appear as a guest star in season two, which viewers get a brief glimpse of in the trailer.
