When most people think lavender, they think sleep. It's long been the scent of choice for soothing products, baby night-time washes and (our favourite) pillow mists.
And while we love nothing more than getting a good night's sleep, lavender oil is actually quite the multi-purpose product. Here are some uses you may not have known about this key essential oil...
To calm and rejuvenate the skin
Calming in scent and calming on the skin, lavender oil can be added to creams for extra conditioning and rejuvenating benefits.
It also has antiseptic properties, which make it a great addition to your first-aid kit.
"Apply the oil directly the wounds, bites and stings as a skin healer", says Tipper Lewis, Head of Training at Neal's Yard Remedies.
To combat oily hair and dandruff
Itchy scalp? Dandruff? Look like a grease ball if you miss one hair wash?
"Lavender oil helps combat oily hair and dandruff", says Tipper. "And research has shown that massaging lavender oil into the scalp can improve hair growth."
Thanks to the anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal properties, lavender oil can help soothe redness and irritation on the scalp while slowing down oil production and dandruff build-up.
To relieve tension headaches
The next time you're suffering from a tension headache, Tipper says to rub lavender oil onto temples, using an anti-clockwise motion.
And if you're in need of extra relaxation, "try using it with a base oil in a bedtime-bath or in a diffuser to create a relaxing atmosphere."
To make your own toning spritz
Not necessarily using lavender oil, but if you brew dried lavender, strain, and then pour into a spray bottle, voilá! You have your own homemade toning mist.
And foot soak...
A lifesaver for tired feet, try mixing some lavendar oil with warm water to soak your tootsies in.
The perfect pre-pedicure treatment!
