We can thank our lucky stars, because it's officially Adele season once more. The powerhouse singer has returned, with a new track dropping next week and her fourth album on its way.
In an absolutely iconic move, Adele gave two lengthy interviews – one to Vogue US, and one to British Vogue – where she opened up about all kinds. The inspiration behind her latest album (divorce, dating, having to explain both to a young child) was discussed, as was the fanfare around her weight loss.
First of all, she made it clear that her journey that led up to THAT picture in her back garden (see below) took place over a long period of time (two years), and was grounded in a need to protect her mental health – and to stay away from her phone.
Fans across the world are celebrating Adele Friday (and sobbing in unison).
“It was because of my anxiety," she says. "Working out, I would just feel better. It was never about losing weight, it was always about becoming strong and giving myself as much time every day without my phone. I got quite addicted to it.”
Adele also discussed her own exercise routine, which is an intense-yet-effective one. “I work out two or three times a day,” she says. “I do my weights in the morning, then I normally hike or I box in the afternoon, and then I go and do my cardio at night.”
She's very clear about the privilege in being able to spend a large amount of time exercising, though. “I was basically unemployed when I was doing it. And I do it with [personal] trainers. It’s not doable for a lot of people.” What a star – being truly real about her wellness routine, what inspires it, as well as her awareness of what it takes to maintain it.

Adele also got candid about the public obsession over her body. “People have been talking about my body for 12 years,” she says. “They used to talk about it before I lost weight. But yeah, whatever, I don’t care. You don’t need to be overweight to be body positive, you can be any shape or size.”
She also hit out at the fabricated diets and routines that others have claimed she follows. “You know a hundred per cent of the stories written about me have been absolutely fake," she says. “The people that came out being like, ‘I trained her,’ I’ve never met in my life. It’s disgusting. I cannot get over it. Some Pilates lady I’ve never met in my life! And I haven’t done any diet.”
Adele also previously revealed she turned her life around and is no longer "stressed and disheveled" after reading Untamed, Stop Pleasing, Start Living by Glennon Doyle.
She previously shared a snap of the book's cover on Instagram with the caption: "If you’re ready - this book will shake your brain and make your soul scream.
"I am so ready for myself after reading this book! It’s as if I just flew into my body for the very first time. Whew!
"Anyone who has any kind of capacity to truly let go and give into yourself with any kind of desire to hold on for dear life - Do it. Read it. Live it. Practice it. We are a lot! But we are meant to be a lot!...
"I never knew that I am solely responsible for my own joy, happiness and freedom!!
"Who knew our own liberation liberates those around us? Cause I didn’t!!
"I thought we were meant to be stressed and disheveled, confused and selfless like a Disney character! ProBloodyFound!! You’re an absolute don Glennon." Anyone else heading to Amazon to pick up a copy?
Adele appears to be enjoying a new lease of life since her split from her charity entrepreneur husband of three years Simon Konecki. The pair married in 2016 after five years of dating and share a six-year-old son together, but in April 2019 they announced their separation. In a joint statement, the pair said they were "committed to raising their son together lovingly".
