Hypothyroidism: The Basics
Hypothyroidism is when your thyroid gland doesn't make enough hormones, slowing down your metabolism. Symptoms include weight gain, tiredness, and feeling cold. It's more common in older women but can happen at any age. Causes range from autoimmune diseases to certain medications. Diagnosis involves blood tests and scans, with treatment usually involves taking daily hormone replacement pills.
