Description:
The F-15E Strike Eagle is the primary, multi-role, air superiority and strike fighter aircraft of the U.S. Air Force. The F-15E is based on the original McDonnell Douglas built F-15C/D Eagle built for air superiority role following the dogfighting debacles suffered in the Vietnam War. F-15EX Eagle II is the latest, 21st century incarnation of the F-15 platform.
Primary Role
The F-15E Strike Eagle is a twin engine, multirole strike aircraft of the U.S. Air Force and the program’s primary role is to carry out long range, high-speed Air-to-Air interdictions without needing escort aircrafts or electronic attack aircrafts and strike ground targets. The F-15 program was originally conceived primarily as an Air Superiority aircraft with the program having proven itself as almost invincible in aerial dogfights with the F-15s having scored over a 100 aerial victories with not even a single one lost to the enemy.
Origin, Timeline & Scope
The F-15 Eagle program was originally conceived by the USAF as a replacement for its ageing, in-service fleet of F-4 Phantoms. The F-15 program was conceived in the late 1960s, under the USAF’s plan to develop a dedicated air superiority fighter following heavy losses in dogfights through the Vietnam War. The McDonnell Douglas’ design was down-selected in 1969 with the first prototype having its maiden flight in 1972 and the first F-15s entering service in 1976. The F-15E variant was developed following the proven success of the F-15 airframe in aerial warfare. The first F-15E had its maiden flight in 1986 and EIS two years later in
