About this ebook

I know in life, a lot of us face adversity, with some of us facing more than our fair share. I also know at times that those feeling left behind can be intense and dramatic, sometimes coming in waves and impacting like a Tsunamis. A lot of poems I wrote for this collection, I wrote in those moments of devastation. I wrote these poems as a lesson to try and see the important things in those moments, and as a result, even learned to let some things go. I really just want to give a heads up, that if you have endured abuse of any kind, my collection may hit you harder than it would most. I understand it may be difficult, but I hope that my collection will help you to see that there can be something beautiful within the pain, and healing from a traumatic past can be the most painful thing to undergo.

If you are currently going through abuse, no matter how little it may seem to you, please know that there is help all around you, you only need to reach out. You are not alone, and you can always heal, you just have to find your right path! If 2019 has taught me anything, it’s that there is someone always willing to listen who really cares for you.

Two Steps from Hell - Saé Starkey

Fallen Angels

the lost sons and forgotten daughters of the rebellion.

Hell, maybe that would give us the understanding we seek,

or the reasoning we need.

Sometimes that very reason is the war we face.

The very fear we choke on.

If only for a moment, the world could feel peace,

we would all clearly see our place -

and realise that our love, keeps us safe.

Human Nature

It’s chaotic in here, in my head.

Like a thousand trains collided on one train track.

I’m a train-wreck -

still searching for reason. Maybe it’s an illusion?

Or perhaps Human Nature.

Either way, it’s about survival -

as I become my own teacher.

Compassion (Human nature: Part Two)

(To J)

You taught me emotion, showed me courage. Compassion.

Years past marked by hard lessons,

now I finally understand -

that which makes us human; is a
