Citrus Fruits: An Introduction
Recent scientific studies reveal one important fact regarding our nutrition: Cruciferous vegetables, dark leafy greens, citrus fruits and berries are the most nutritious foods on the planet Earth. Yes, these fruits and vegetables are nothing but only nutrients and water. Among the citrus fruits, limes, lemons, oranges and grapefruits and among the berries, strawberries and blackberries provide a wholesome nutrition to human body. So if you are looking for a healthier lifestyle, start today to include one or more of these foods in your daily diet.
As per the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, an adult human being requires 17 essential nutrients on daily basis for healthy functioning of the body. These are, Protein, Fiber, Calcium, Iron, Potassium, Zinc, Vitamin C, Thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacin, Vitamin B-6, Vitamin B-12, Folate/ Vitamin B-9, Vitamin A, Vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol), Vitamin K (phylloquinone), and Vitamin D.
Recently some researchers at the William Paterson University, New Jersey conducted researches on the nutrient density of about 47 plant-based foods and their findings reveal that dark leafy greens, cruciferous vegetables, citrus fruits and berries are the most nutrient-dense foods (with all these 17 essential nutrients present in them) that are available for the humans today. According to their research, the list of the most nutrient-dense foods based on their nutrient density is as given below:
