Type 2 Diabetes From Diagnosis to a New Way of Life - matthew lashley
Chapter 1
From denial to self-blame
It started with a nose infection. I don’t know how it happened, but I had a nostril begin to swell and in a matter of 48 hours, my entire face was swollen. With no time to make an appointment with a doctor and not wanting to go to a walk-in emergency room, I made an appointment at a local clinic. I was able to get in the same day I called and was examined by a physicians assistant or PA. He prescribed an anti-biotic that cleared up my infection, but while I was being examined, he noticed that my blood pressure was high. There were a few other issues that I wanted to mention to the doctor. I was having problems with my eyesight, and I had a couple of cuts on my arm that were not healing right. Of course, there was the issue of high blood pressure.
I began taking my blood pressure with a battery operated machine I had at home. After three weeks of testing, I was averaging 137/82. I didn’t think this was too bad, but I wrote down the data for the doctor. A few days after going to the test lab for blood work, I went to the doctor. I took a short list of my medical issues, so I would remember to ask about everything. There was a nurse that took my blood pressure and
