    Hate is a strong word.



    Depending on the company, loathe is a good substitute. Abhor might be a little fancy, but it gets the job done. But the word that really sums up how I feel about Liam Darcy is, without question, hate.



    He doesn't seem to think much of me either. The second he lays his fault-seeking eyes on me, he sets out to oppose me. Everything about him is imposing, as if he consumes the nearby air to power the rise and fall of his broad chest, and it's clear he resents my presence on his advertising team. Every idea I have is shot down. Every olive branch I offer is set on fire by nothing more than the blistering coals he calls eyes.



    In return, I light him up with my words. It's not as if he can dismiss me, since I work for his client, Wasted Words. Instead, he's forced to tolerate me, which seems the closest we'll ever be to friends. Fine by me. I can be civil and still hate Liam Darcy.



    But if there's more to him than his exterior shows, I won't be able to hate him at all.



    I might stumble over that line between love and hate and fall right into his arms.

    Readers find this title to be a mixed bag. Some readers found the characters to be infuriating and the modern adaptation to be overbearing and controlling. However, others enjoyed the author's way with words and appreciated the reminder of why they like Jane Austen. There were also concerns about the controlling and coercive behavior of the Darcy character. Overall, the book left a sour taste for some readers, but others found it enjoyable and reminiscent of Pride and Prejudice.

      Ok but… the Darcy character comes across very controlling and coercive toward the Georgiana character which I found disappointing and uncomfortable. Also the relationship between the leads isn’t developed and explored enough to warrant their ultimate feelings.

      I was super hesitant and nervous about reading a re-do of Pride and Prejudice. Truth be known It is not my favorite Jane Austen book although I do really enjoy it. So my hesitancy was strong. But I didn’t have any other audio book available so I took the plunge. I liked it, a lot. The author has a way with words. And yes I can see how it bothered some people that it’s a modern setting, in NYC but the characters still speak in a very formal, even British way. I did not have an issue with this. It brought me back to the route of the book. Reminded me why I like Jane Austin so much. Several times I found myself wondering how many of the highlighted writing were correct from Pride and Prejudice because many of them felt like it.

      “But I … I need you to know that my feelings haven’t changed—I don’t know that they ever will. I’ve held out hope that yours would. But one word from you will silence me forever.”
      I mean some lines definitely are! I also loved the letter which was extremely reminiscent of the original but I didn’t mind that at all, in fact I loved that.

      Overall I think the author did an exceptional job with this retelling. It’s a tall order, taking a book that has survived and thrived over centuries is not a small feat. There were a few times where the book felt a little long winded but then again so was the original ?. I will definitely be reading more by this author

      I love any retelling of P&P. The beginning was fine and very cute, and these are supposed to be flawed characters, but the more I got into the book, the worse it got, to the point where the main characters just got too infuriating. The modern adaptation also made Liam Darcy too overbearing, borderline toxic and controlling. His overprotectiveness could have been written without being controlling. I usually forgive a lot with a good ending and wrap up, but it really left a sour taste and I couldn't enjoy the entire second half of the book unfortunately. Finished it cringing.
