THE Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) has been at the forefront of tracking and measuring the HIV epidemic and has provided information that is key to programmatic planning and interventions for more than two decades.
After successive increases in HIV prevalence over the years in South Africa, the epidemic seems to be stabilising at 12.7%, translating to 7.8 million people living with HIV (PLHIV) in the country, which is 107,000 fewer PLHIV compared to 2017 estimates.
