The gods are angry at me. Specifically, the implacable interstellar toad wizards in charge of the lizardmen. They haven’t taken kindly to my dwarf rangers appearing out of nowhere, declaring war on them, and occupying the settlement of Fallen Gates, like wrong-aspect-ratio soccer hooligans rocking up to Marmaris then bunkering up in an English theme bar. It could spell the end of this diary before it even begins.

Last time, intrepid brothers Yadri and Dramar Growlsh successfully crossed the Old World to colonize the western edge of the map. But ‘successfully’ is misleading. It ended up being a desperate, last-ditch scramble that saw me lose the sacred dwarf capital, Karaz-a-karak. At the time I didn’t think too deeply about lingering questions like how I’d get back to my home or survive a counterattack by Hexoatl, my cold-blooded lizardman enemies.

I can now answer the second bit: By fleeing. I have a depleted army. Just one feeble settlement. And I can barely afford to maintain my forces. If my hostile lizardman neighbors
