60, single & HAPPY
When I started my first office job, straight out of school at 17, I sat next to the delightful Hazel Boyd. She was slim, blonde, kind and 32. She had two children and was married to Gordon. She lived in a lovely house, in a smart area (whereas we resided in a council flat, in a not-so-smart area), and I thought she was ancient.
When she came into work one day, and announced she was pregnant with her third child, I nearly had a coronary.
People still have sex at 32? I thought I would vomit in my mouth – I found the very thought quite disgusting.
I was outspoken, and asked “What’s it like being 32, Hazel?”
She retorted, with a shocked look on her face, “You’ll find out one day Denise”, and I said, “Never! 32 is so old, I’ll never get to 32!” One foot in the grave kinda stuff.
Fast-forward to 2020, and I have just hit the big six
