Earlier this month, 23-year-old Atlanta artist Yung Baby Tate released her single titled, “Camp.” “I was really inspired by the Met Gala this year. When I saw the theme, I looked it up,” she told ESSENCE. “I was like, “oh my gosh,” I love it, this is me, I want to do this.”
If you’re still not familiar with Yung Baby Tate, she’s most known for her viral hit “Bob,” nominated for a 2019 Grammy and carries her color blocking style wherever she goes. Posing in an avant-garde dress on her “Camp” single cover, Tate has used that inspiration for her 7 project EP.
To anticipate her fashion-themed project, she held a Camp event at Red Bull Music Festival. where guests were invited to dress up in their version of this year’s met gala theme. “Now I’m going to take that essence of what camp is and put it into the whole project,” Tate exclaimed.
Ahead of her “Camp” EP, ESSENCE got a chance to chat with the songstress about fashion, what she can’t leave the house without, and her hopes to start a fashion label in the future. Read below.
