The Mathematics Section offers four master programs
Master in Mathematics
The Master of Mathematics (MSc Mathematics) (90 ECTS credits) is oriented towards pure mathematics (algebra, analysis, number theory, probability, geometry and topology) or applied mathematics (applied analysis, numerical analysis, probability, statistics, optimization). This degree leads to various careers in teaching, private companies, and governmental institutions. It is also an excellent preparation for students planning to follow a PhD program in mathematics. The study plan comprises one year of courses and individual assignments (60 ECTS credits), followed by a master thesis lasting four months (30 ECTS credits).
Master of Applied Mathematics
The Master of Applied Mathematics (MSc Ing. Math.) (120 ECTS credits) is oriented towards the applications of mathematics (operations research, applied probability and stochastic processes, numerical analysis and scientific computing) and includes an engineering internship. This degree is an excellent basis for various professional careers in domains such as financial mathematics, insurance, statistics, scientific computing and industrial modeling. The study plan comprises one year of courses and individual assignments (60 ECTS credits), followed by an engineering internship (30 ECTS credits) and a master thesis lasting four months (30 ECTS credits).
Master in Computational Science and Engineering
The Master in Computational Science and Engineering (120 ECTS credits) is a curriculum in the interdisciplinary field of simulation-based engineering science. This degree leads to professional careers in software engineering, environmental engineering, financial services, chemical and pharmaceutical R&D. It is also an excellent preparation for students planning to follow a PhD program in computational science. The study plan comprises 3 semesters (90 ECTS credits) of courses, individual assignments and engineering internship, followed by a master thesis lasting four months (30 ECTS credits).
Master in statistics
The master in statistics (120 ECT credits) trains students in statistical thinking, methods, visualization and computation, and in their application in data analysis. It is intended for students with strong mathematical and computational skills and a scientific or engineering background who want to give themselves crucial skills for sound reasoning in a data-flooded world. The study plan includes one year of core and optional courses (60 ECTS credits), followed by an internship (30 ECTS credits) and a master thesis lasting four months (30 ECTS credits).
