Capital One was the most downloaded US banking app between January and April 2022, with 5.0 million net new installations. Digital-only contender Chime took the No. 2 spot, with 4.7 million, while Chase came in third, with 4.1 million net new installs.
Beyond the chart: At this rate, the top three are well on their way to beating their total download numbers from last year, contributing to the 4.3% growth we project for the US mobile phone banking user base in 2022. Still, 37.9% of US adults will not bank via a mobile phone this year, which presents an opportunity for further growth among digital-only financial institutions. But physical branches remain highly relevant for the 21.1% of adults who won’t use any form of digital banking.
