DOC NYC has opened its application process for the seventh annual 40 Under 40 initiative. Applications will be accepted through June 15, 2024.
40 Under 40 celebrates emerging talent in the documentary world, including directors, producers, cinematographers, and editors. Honorees will be celebrated at the 2024 DOC NYC festival on the festival’s website and social media channels, and feted in an exclusive cocktail reception. Past honorees include Oscar-winning producer Shane Boris (Fire of Love and Navalny), filmmakers Sara Dosa (Fire of Love), Rebeca Huntt (Beba), Reid Davenport (I Didn’t See You There), Alan Hicks (My Sister Liv), Isabel Castro (Mija), and Maxim Pozdorovkin (The Conspiracy); producers Joe Bender (The Conspiracy), Tabs Breese (Mija), and Rob Hatch-Miller (The Elephant 6 Recording Co.); executive producer Lauren Haber (Aftershock, Mija and The Return of Tanya Tucker – Featuring Brandi Carlile); editor Erin Casper (Fire of Love) and supervising sound editor Zach Selvers (The End of the World).
The 2024 edition of 40 Under 40 will be selected from an open applications process, in which documentary creatives from across the field are invited to apply for the honor directly. Two letters of recommendation and a comprehensive biography are required as part of this application process. In addition, to qualify for consideration, applicants must have been born on or after November 20, 1984 and be based in the U.S.,Canada and/or Mexico, regardless of their U.S. citizenship or immigration status. Applicants must also have at least one credit in the position of director, producer, cinematographer or editor on a feature-length documentary with national distribution via theaters, television or a digital platform; or having been an official selection of a major film festival.
