Marvel's spooky TV special Werewolf By Night is getting a new colourised edition on streaming service Disney+.

The special, which sees a clandestine group of monster hunters compete for a powerful relic, all while fighting a dangerous beast, was originally released in black and white in October, 2022.

Now, Marvel has revealed that the horror flick – unlike anything seen before in the MCU – is coming back to Disney+ in time for Halloween, but this time in colour.

Discussing the re-release, director Michael Giacchino revealed that he considered a colourised version when shooting, even though the film was always intended to be in black-and-white.

"When we shot it, we tried to – at least in my head, I always knew black and white was, foremost, the first version we were going to do," he said.

"But I also kept an eye on what we were doing color-wise, in hopes that if we did a color version, it could be fun. So I think it's just a fun, nice way to reintroduce it to the world in a different way for them to experience Werewolf By Night."

Continuing, Giacchino, who is also a long-time movie music composer, addressed the special's unique storyline and themes in the wider Marvel ecosystem, and how colour played into that.

"The vision from the beginning was to do this thing in black and white so that we could then do something different under the Marvel umbrella. To do something that hadn't been done before. I will always be appreciative that Marvel allowed me to do that."

Werewolf by Night stars Outlander actress Laura Donnelly and Gael García Bernal – and also has a big hand in setting up upcoming Avengers film, Secret Wars.

Werewolf by Night in Color will be available to stream on Disney+ on October 20.
