Horror movies are perfect for the spooky autumnal months. In 2019, there are plenty of original, sequels, and remakes to scare your socks off.
It: Chapter 2 - September 6
Like its 2017 prequel, It: Chapter 2 is based on the Stephen King novel of the same name. Warner Bros says the sequel "brings the characters — who've long since gone their separate ways — back together as adults, nearly three decades after the events of the first film."
The first movie, by Andy Muschietti, departed in many ways from the book, but kept the major beats and plot points, and will likely do the same in the sequel. In fact, writer Gary Dauberman revealed It: Chapter 2 will keep two major events from the book.
The Hunt - September 27
Horror production powerhouse Blumhouse is bringing out another movie. The Hunt seems like a cross between Hostel and The Maze Runner which, to be honest, sounds terrifying. The film follows 12 strangers who wake up in a forest clearing. They have no idea where they are or how they got there. In fact, they are human prey for visitors of The Manor – a boutique, five-star hunting experience.
Ready Or Not - September 27
Speaking of being hunted, Samara Weaving (Home and Away) stars as Grace in Ready or Not, who marries the man of her dreams at his family's luxurious estate. There's just one catch -- she must now hide from midnight until dawn while her new in-laws hunt her with guns, crossbows and other weapons. The trailer adds elements of dark humour and suspense to make it appealing to both fans of horror and comedy alike.
Are You Afraid Of The Dark? - October 4
It and The Nun writer Gary Dauberman is adapting the '90s hit horror-fantasy anthology series for a movie. There are few details revealed as of yet, but Dauberman said: "I think it is scary and I think kids will be scared watching it at times, and also they’ll laugh at times.
Zombieland 2: Double Tap - October 11
Given the positive reception to the first Zombieland movie, a sequel seemed likely. Zombieland 2: Double Tap takes place after the events of the first film. Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg), Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson), Wichita (Emma Stone) and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin) move to the American heartland as they face off against evolved zombies, fellow survivors and the growing pains of the snarky makeshift family.
Doctor Sleep - October 31
Debuting on actual Halloween night, Doctor Sleep stars Ewan McGreggor in the Stephen King adaptation of his follow up to The Shining. Doctor Sleep follows a grown up Danny Torrance who remains traumatised by the sinister events that occurred at the Overlook Hotel when he was a child.
He then meets Abra, a teen who shares his gift of the shine. Together the two go up against a cult whose members try to feed off the shine of innocents to become immortal called True Knot.
Next year will see movies like Grudge (yes, again), A Quiet Place 2, and a Saw reboot.
