Incoming Yankees star Cody Bellinger is married to new teammate's ex as MLB trade creates awkward love triangle
Cody Bellinger's impending move to the Yankees could make things very awkward in New York - as he's currently married to one of his new teammate's ex-girlfriends.
The Yankees have secured Bellinger in a trade from the Chicago Cubs, who will send $5million for salary relief while receiving right-handed reliever Cody Poteet in return.
It comes as another huge boost for the team in the wake of crosstown rivals the New York Mets winning the hotly-contested race for Juan Soto earlier this month.
However, eagle-eyed fans have already highlighted an extremely awkward sub-plot in Bellinger's trade to the Yankees: his wife used to date Giancarlo Stanton.
The former MVP, 29, is married to stunning model Chase Bellinger, 27 - who was known as Chase Carter prior to their wedding in December 2023.
The couple have been together since the summer of 2020, which is just over a year on from the end of her relationship with Stanton - the five-time All Star slugger who recently wrapped up his seventh season with the Yankees.

Stanton still has three years left on a mammoth 13-year contract worth $325m, meaning he will be going nowhere anytime soon.
Nevertheless, since he and Chase went their separate ways the 35-year-old had been dating 27-year-old Asiana Hung-Barnes, only for the pair to reportedly call it quits in the summer.
Chase has also had two daughters with Cody - Caiden, three, and Cy, one - meaning she has fully moved on and settled down with the ex-Cubs star in the five years since her romance with Stanton.
Bellinger has two years remaining on his contract with an opt-out after 2025 as he prepares to join the Yankees.
The now-former Chicago man, whose father Clay helped the Yankees win World Series titles in 1999 and 2000, is owed $27.5 million in 2025 under the first of two player options as part of an $80 million, three-year contract.
He also has a $25 million player option for 2026 with a $5 million buyout that would be payable in equal installments on January 15, 2026, and January 15, 2027.
Bellinger, who plays first base and center field, won Rookie of the Year in 2017 and MVP in 2019 before suffering a downturn in production that was due at least in part by injuries. He also helped the Los Angeles Dodgers win a World Series title in 2020.
He was cut by the Dodgers in November 2022 and signed a $17.5 million, one-year deal with Chicago a month later, where he regained his form.
