Manchester United fans have taken to social media to react to Marcus Rashford's shock admission that he is ready to leave Old Trafford.

Rashford was left out of the squad by Ruben Amorim for United's dramatic 2-1 derby win over Manchester City on Sunday just days after Mail Sport exclusively revealed that the club are willing to listen to offers of around £40m for the forward.

And in an interview with journalist Henry Winter on Tuesday, Rashford revealed that he could move on from the club in the near future.

'For me, personally, I'm ready for a new challenge and the next steps,' he said.

'When I leave it's going to be no hard feelings. You’re not going to have any negative comments from me about Man United.'

Rashford has been at United for 20 years after being picked up by the club's academy at the age of seven, and supporters have conceded that losing their local hero would be a tough blow to take.

'Marcus Rashford leaving is always going to be one that hurts,' one fan wrote on X. 'We’ve watched him grow up & develop in front of our eyes and at times he’s been one of the only positives in a bad 10 years for the club.

'Only 11 players in our history have scored more than him. This one hits deep.'

Another posted: 'You’ll always be remembered as a true red Marcus Rashford,' alongside picture of Rashford lifting various trophies during his time at the club.

United are expected to sell players over the next two transfer windows to ensure they adhere to profit and sustainability rules (PSR).

Homegrown players count as pure profit, which may explain why Rashford is being lined up for a transfer by the club's hierarchy.

However, some fans are angry that the Red Devils have found themselves in such a predicament.

'Whether you like Marcus Rashford or not, whether you think he’s good enough or not, it’s very sad that our club is in the state where an academy graduate, one of our all time top scorers and someone who’s carried the club at times during some of its toughest years is essentially being forced out,' one supporter added.

Another fan went even further as they wrote: 'Absolute joke, Manchester United cannot sell Marcus Rashford.

'A player who’s been here since day 1, absolute disgrace. So many more problems in the team before it reaches Marcus. If Marcus is forced out I will be INEOS out. Manc born and bred.'

Rashford has struggled for form over the past 18 months after netting 30 goals in Erik ten Hag's first season.

But that outstanding campaign and his overall record since breaking into the first team as an 18-year-old in 2016 has convinced some that United would be making a mistake if they let Rashford go.

'If Manchester United lose Marcus Rashford, they will regret it. Bookmark this tweet,' a fan posted.
