Everton captain Seamus Coleman sent a heart-warming message to a young Australian fan who missed the Merseyside derby, as it was called off due to severe weather warnings.

Mackenzie Kinsella, 15, from Sydney, spent £1,500 to attend the match that was scheduled to take place on Saturday afternoon before it was postponed.

The teenager, who has been a die-hard Everton fan since birth thanks to his Liverpool-born mother Rita, saved up his cash to enable him to go on a two-week trip to see Sean Dyche's side in matches against Wolves and Liverpool.

Coleman, who has made 365 appearances for Everton since joining in 2009, personally addressed Mackenzie in a video and invited him to meet the squad during their upcoming training session on Monday.

'Hi Mackenzie, it's Seamus Coleman here. I just wanted to send you a video message to say I know that you will be so disappointed today,' the 36-year-old said.

'I know how hard you saved up to travel from Australia for the Merseyside derby.

'I know you were looking forward to the experience [of] being at the last Merseyside derby at Goodison [Park], so I'm sure that you will be so disappointed today.

'We all are, all of us Evertonians are. We were all looking forward to the game.

'But we'd love to see you down here at the training ground on Monday if that's ok with you.

'Hopefully you can see a few of the lads and hopefully it'll make up for some of the disappointment and we can have a chat then.

'All the very best, Mackenzie, and take care.'

The fixture is expected to be postponed until some point in 2025, depending on both Liverpool and Everton's progress in other cup competitions.

If Liverpool finish in the top eight positions in the Champions League table, they would avoid two games in the knockout phase play-offs on February 11-12 and February 18-19 2025.

Everton do not have a game on either of these dates, meaning that this would likely be the earliest date that the fixture could be rescheduled to.

The Premier League has also set two midweek fixture slots for postponed matches: April 22-23 and May 13-15 2025.

Unless both teams are eliminated from the FA Cup before then, it is possible that the game could be replayed on one of these dates.
