Follow Mail Sport's live blog for all the updates, including team news, from Ruben Amorim's first Manchester United press conference, ahead of the weekend trip to face Ipswich Town.

Thanks and goodbye!

That was a really interesting few hours following Ruben Amorim in his first media address since becoming Manchester United's new head coach.

To recap, here is some of the best bits:

15:51

Is he nervous ahead of Ipswich?

As I just shared over on X, not at all... one game at a time for the new man.

15:44

Q. Who is Ruben Amorim? And do you have a message to Viktor Gyokores?

Ruben Amorim:

In Portugal everyone already knows me. In England, they'll have time to get to know me.
Good luck to João [Pereira]. I want [Sporting] to win all the competitions.
Gyökeres? He has a game today, I hope he plays well, doesn't get injured and is successful at Sporting.

15:39

'People here like an attacking, intense game'

Ruben Amorim:

Many times, the coach has an idea of the game and we try to implement it in this club.
But we have to look at the history of the club, of the league we are in. People here like an attacking, intense game. But we have to combine that with the idea of the coach, who is also someone who likes to play to win.
Adding that to the fact that this is an intense league, full of shocks, goals... we have to try to combine these two aspects.
15:38

Portuguese reporters have their say

Portuguese journalists in the room also got to speak to Ruben Amorim and ask questions in their own language so let's get to some of those...

15:33

Ruben Amorim defends players over holidays

Ruben Amorim came to the defence of Marcus Rashford and Casemiro after they headed on holiday to the United States - but he had a pointed message to his bosses.

15:20

Gary Neville: Is top four still the aim?

Another good exchange from the Neville-Amorim chat here:

Gary Neville:

You are 13th but actually only four points from top four - is that still the aim this season?

Ruben Amorim:

First thing, I'm only focused on winning the next game. You and the other guys will judge me for the position I really don't care. I know that, that's why we are Manchester United. My goal is for this game and the next game. To win every game.
15:17

Student becomes the teacher!

This photo still gets me.

How time flies. Now it's the man on the right with the pressure on his shoulders...

15:06

My verdict on Ruben Amorim from Carrington

Here is my verdict from Carrington where Ruben Amorim has just held court...

14:56

'I'm a dreamer,' says Ruben Amorim

While Ruben Amorim knows there is a lot of work to do he knows also that he cannot go too long without winning.

Read more of his thoughts on his need to win below.

14:49

Erik ten Hag paved the way, says Amorim

Right, let's bring you a bit more from this Sky chat between Ruben Amorim and Gary Neville.

He was asked about where his confidence comes from that he can succeed given that Erik ten Hag arrived with his stock high.

Ruben Amorim:

Erik ten Hag was amazing at Ajax. For me he built the best two teams outside the five strongest leagues.
So my confidence does not come from just that [winning at Sporting.] My idea could go wrong but I am comfortable because I know step one, step two, step three. With that I am confident we will achieve something.

14:43

Amorim: 'We need better athletes'

This is a really noteworthy exchange between Ruben Amorim and Gary Neville in their interview for Sky Sports.

Ruben Amorim:

The first thing I think we have to be is better athletes. That is something you can acknowledge when we can see the data.

Gary Neville: 'You mean fitter than they currently are?'

Ruben Amorim:

When I say fitter it's not thinner.. nothing like that - you have to understand the data. When to press high, the average meters we have to run, the sprint. We have this data and have to cope with that. So we know the goal is to reach that.
14:39

How do new Man United bosses get on?

It's a good question, particularly given very few questions in today's press conference made any reference to Ipswich on Sunday.

So Mail Sport crunched the data on how new Man United managers have got on...

14:31

'It will be amazing to meet'

There is still more to come from Ruben Amorim today as his chat with Gary Neville airs from 3pm.

Here is a snippet where Amorim discusses his thoughts on United icon Roy Keane...

14:24

Ruben 'The Right One' Amorim

Ruben Amorim declared himself The Right One as he was officially unveiled as Manchester United’s new head coach.

Amorim confirmed that he made contact with former United manager Jose Mourinho before deciding to leave Sporting Lisbon and become the sixth permanent boss at Old Trafford since Sir Alex Ferguson.

Mourinho famously described himself as The Special One when he arrived at Chelsea from FC Porto in 2004, but 39-year-old Amorim chose a different way to introduce himself.

Read more of my thoughts by clicking below.

14:20

Q. Can these players play your 3-4-3 system?

Ruben Amorim:

As a coach you have to choose one way or another, I choose always 100 per cent our way. I choose to risk a bit.
I believe so much in our way of playing, they will believe too. There is no second way.
We will adapt some players because we don’t have a different profile. Maybe on Sunday you will see the starting 11 and not feel a lot of change but you will see it in the game and the positioning or where they receive the ball.
14:18

Q. Players have lost belief in themselves - how do you bring that back?

Ruben Amorim:

That is for sure but normal when players don’t win games, you start to be suspicious of the way of playing.
You can understand when they walk to the game or the warm up, you can understand if they are confident or not.
I think they have to help themselves but they are ready to cope with the demands of games in the Premier League.
You see sometimes they have a bad first half and then second half they will change so they have to find that mindset.

14:15

Q. On average managers here since Sir Alex Ferguson have had 2.5 years, is that long enough to get the job done?

Ruben Amorim:

I have two years and a half of contract. I think two years you can understand if I am the right manager to go in this process.
We will need more time, if you look to the clubs who are winning this league, they are doing this process for a long time.
I understand we will need more than two and a half years, we have to win something, somewhere, but in two years you can understand if you want to continue this path or change...
14:14

Q. Why do you believe in these players when they failed Ten Hag?

Ruben Amorim:

It is a belief, you have to believe and I believe in them.
When I start this week, you can say one week three trainings but they are open to different things.
The only thing I ask is hard work and you have to believe in the idea.

14:13

Q. Is this an impossible job?

Ruben Amorim:

I really don’t know what the biggest challenge [will be], I will find out during these months.
You have here different types of coaches, the guys that won everything like Van Gaal and Mourinho, the new ones that knew the club inside out like Solskjaer, then one of the best outside the top five leagues in Ten Hag.
We have to improve as a club and acknowledge we have to win games. You have different coaches, the same results. We will try to do Ineos' way, my way.

Not impossible?

No, of course not. Call me naïve but I believe I am the right guy in the right moment. I truly believe that I am the right guy for this job.
14:11

Q. Will you have an influence on recruitment?

Ruben Amorim:

I think it has to be all together because if you are a coach coming here and already chose the players, you could be wrong because the club will be here for a long time and you as a coach, you don’t know that.
We have to improve the process of recruitment, the data. I think it is all together, but the final word should be the manager, not because it is your right but because it is your responsibility.
I have to understand the league and then when everything is aligned, everyone is on the same page, we can buy and sell players.

14:10

Q. How do you improve this team?

Ruben Amorim:

In simple things, I think, if you want to speak about the team, I think we lose the ball too often, we have to be better at running back.
I think that is clear to everyone and I think we have to be better on the details.
We have to improve on the small things. In the small things, I think I can help a lot.

14:08

Q. Have you spoken to Jose Mourinho?

Ruben Amorim:

He sent me a message, he said welcome to the club, big club and in that he is correct.
But a lot of things change, we are in a different building now, we are building a new one.
I am a different guy and I hope to teach something to my players. The club is still big, it is still the best in England and we want to win.
14:06

Q. Evolution or revolution here?

Ruben Amorim:

It is not revolution. Football is not so different with three players at the back, four or five.
We will play a different type of football. We have our ideas. It is our way of seeing football.

14:04

Q. What are your first impressions and how long will Man United take to repair?

Ruben Amorim:

I don’t know about repair but we have space to grow as a team.
I think we have to improve in a lot of areas, the understanding of the game, it is a different way of playing and we are changing in the middle of the season.
I think we have to improve the physical aspect of the team. I don’t know how long it will take.
I know if you are in Manchester United you have to win games, so I will not tell you I need a lot of time.
It is a great league, the strongest in the world and we have to improve a lot. We have to win games and then to win titles.
14:02

Q. Do you believe you can win a title here?

Ruben Amorim:

I am a little bit of a dreamer and I believe in myself and I believe in the club.
I think we have the same idea, the same mindset and that can help. I truly believe in the players also.
I think we have room to improve and I want to try new things. You guys think it is not possible, I think it IS possible.

14:00

Q. Reality v Perception at Man United...

Ruben Amorim:

Yeah it is bigger [here]. There is a lot of departments, so much bigger than Sporting and Sporting is big in Portugal.
It is a global club, [a job that is] more than just coaching the team. I have a lot of help. I feel very comfortable. I feel at home.

13:58

'An impressive debut'

An impressive debut performance behind the microphone. Positive messaging. A few smiles. Now for the football…

13:49

'Has the room in the palm of his hand'

As you can imagine, Ruben Amorim has the room in the palm of his hand for this press conference.

Updates are going to be with you very shortly.

Can Ruben Amorim brighten the mood?

When Jose Mourinho asked Sir Alex Ferguson for advice ahead of his spell as Manchester United manager, he was told: 'Bring an umbrella.'

Well that certainly applies today. Its dark and brooding and wet at Carrington. We will wait and see whether Ruben Amorim can brighten the mood...

13:11

Listen to our thoughts on Ruben Amorim

Unsurprisingly, the topic of Ruben Amorim took centre stage on the latest episode of our It's All Kicking Off podcast.

With updates from today's press conference becoming public from 2pm, you've got time to fill the gap with the latest podcast which you can find details of here.

13:06

Can Ruben Amorim handle the scrutiny?

Ruben Amorim has already sat down with Gary Neville for an extended interview with Sky Sports but it is this first press conference where he will be pressed on trickier topics that makes it so intriguing.

All eyes are on him today as he takes his place in the hottest seat in town.

I was fortunate enough to see Amorim in a press conference in full flow in his final weeks with Sporting and he was a real entertainer, you could see the glint in his eye.

Excited to see how it plays out.

13:02

Ruben Amorim impressing staff already

Ruben Amorim is incredibly charismatic and it is no surprise to hear that he has already left a lasting impression on staff around the training ground.

My colleague Mike Keegan has the inside scoop in his latest Inside Sport column, which you can read by clicking below...

12:58

Packed out room for Ruben Amorim

My colleague Chris Wheeler is in position nice and early at Carrington - which is a good job as there is around 50 reporters present and chairs are at a premium!

12:55

Ruben Amorim's first five games in charge

Whereas interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy had four games, all of which were at Old Trafford, life as Manchester United boss begins on the road for Ruben Amorim.

His first five games in charge are:

  • Ipswich Town A (Sunday, November 24) - 4.30pm

SIMON JORDAN: Why the Ruben Amorim appointment HAS to work for Ineos

One of my favourite columns each week comes from Simon Jordan and this is another no-punches-held read when it comes to the management of Manchester United.

Ruben Amorim is the latest roll of the dice and for Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Co, this one has to deliver double sixes.

Read why Simon feels that way by clicking below.

12:47

What could Ruben Amorim's Best XI look like?

Immediately you would put Leny Yoro in there, but who else would make the cut?

Well, firstly, PLAIER, the world's leading AI technology in football, has crunched the data and they reveal that Ruben Amorim should play a 4-4-2 formation and not 3-4-3 against Ipswich Town this Sunday.

But, going on the premise that he will stick to his tried and tested 3-4-3, this is the Best XI, according to PLAIER.

XI: Andre Onana; Harry Maguire, Matthijs de Ligt, Lisandro Martinez; Alejandro Garnacho, Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro, Amad Diallo; Antony, Marcus Rashford, Joshua Zirkzee (3-4-3).

Joshua Zirkzee, who has just one Premier League goal, up front and Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo as wing-backs? BOLD.

12:41

Leny Yoro fitness update

This will be another talking point for Ruben Amorim today.

There was an expectation that Leny Yoro, who has yet to play in the Premier League since joining for £52m in the summer due to injury, would play 45 minutes for the club's Under-21s at Altrincham on Tuesday night.

That plan was seemingly shelved after Yoro got through Amorim's first two training sessions and now all eyes are on whether the young French centre back is fit enough to feature at Ipswich.

12:37

How will the press conference work?

So, there will be three sections.

The first live section will be broadcast and the answers will soon sweep across the internet as Amorim's first official address to the media.

A second section will fall under an 'embargo' where his answers will not be shared until Saturday evening.

And to finish off, to be fair to the Portuguese reporters in the room, Amorim will answer questions in Portuguese.

Everything that we are able to share we will do our best to get to you!

12:34

The Marcus Rashford debate

This will inevitably be one of the thornier topics pushed in Ruben Amorim's direction this afternoon.

Former Manchester United full-back Gary Neville was critical of Marcus Rashford for heading to New York during this latest international break.

The striker has proven a polarising figure in recent seasons and was a star name that Erik ten Hag routinely had to field questions about in press conferences.

Today it will be Amorim who gets quizzed. Let's see how slick he proves.

Read more of Neville's criticism of Rashford below...

Ruben Amorim got down to work

One of the most fascinating pieces of promotional material that came out of Manchester United since Ruben Amorim was appointed was the released footage of his first training session.

In stark contrast to Erik ten Hag, who was often more withdrawn in sessions and took an observation role for large spells of training, Amorim was right among it with the players.

Below is a short clip of the new head coach putting his ideas across...

12:31

What Ruben Amorim has ALREADY changed at Manchester United in just two weeks

Before the press conference gets in full swing at 1.30pm, here is an interesting insight into Ruben Amorim's first two weeks in the job by my colleague Chris Wheeler.

Due to visa delays he has only been out on the training pitch since Monday but already he is making his mark on this group of players.

REMINDER: Mail+ is currently holding a Black Friday offer to sign up at 99p per month for your first year.

Ruben Amorim speaks to the media

Hello and welcome from an overcast Manchester as we prepare to hear Ruben Amorim's first press conference since becoming Manchester United's new head coach.

The 39-year-old has not been officially unveiled to the media to this point and so he will address a raft of questions from that at United's Carrington training ground from 1.30pm.

I'll be here, with some help from my colleagues Ian Ladyman and Chris Wheeler, to bring you all the updates as Amorim tees up his first match in charge away to Ipswich Town on Sunday.
