Galatasaray vs Tottenham - Europa League RECAP: Live score and updates as sloppy Spurs are beaten in thrilling clash in Istanbul as teenager scores before being sent off

Breathless, brilliant and bonkers. Like some sort of fever dream. For the first hour, Spurs were mauled by Galatasaray. Sliced open with astonishing regularity, their goal peppered with 27 efforts by the Turks, who scored three before half-time.

Victor Osimhen gave a lesson in the art of centre forward play and only Fraser Forster’s heroics kept humiliation at bay before, having been reduced to 10 men on the hour, they summoned some sort of fightback as Galatasaray ran out of energy and ended up hanging on.

The boisterous home crowd, having generated an ear-splitting din for most of the night ended up whistling for referee Lawrence Visser to bring it to an end.

And Will Lankshear will certainly not forget his second start for the club. The teenage striker scored his first goal and was sent off for collecting two yellow cards in seven second-half minutes.

You have to feel a little for Will Lankshear tonight.

He netted his first senior goal in the first half and was on top of the world.

Less than an hour of play later, he was marching down the tunnel.

Football can be brutal.

Time runs out for Tottenham.

For 70 minutes, they were battered from pillar to post and even went down to 10 men.

But with DominicSolanke's impact off the bench, it looked like they may pull of the great escape.

But it just wasn't to be.

This referee loves his yellow cards, my word.

He surely hands out his last of the night to Lucas Torreira, formerly of Arsenal.

I must admit, I have no idea why he has been given it.

There is still time for another yellow card.

It is handed to a Spuyrs player once more as Rodrigo Bentancur becomes the latest player to be added to the list.

Ohhh, that was the moment for Dejan Kulusevski!

Fernando Muslera has a moment of madness as he rushes miles out his box and heads the ball straight to the Swede.

Kulusevski is miles out but sees the opportunity to lob the keeper who is rushing back, but he hits the ball miles wide.

That's a big chance.

Tottenham have some hope...

There will be seven minutes of stoppage time for Tottenham to find an equaliser.

They couldn't, could they?

This game has really lost its flow now and it's helping Tottenham.

Spurs seemed to have come out the other side of a crazy storm and have just a few minutes to try find a leveller.

If they manage this, it would be unbelievable.

Michy Batshuayi is now on to replace Mauro Icardi who went off on a stretcher.

Berkan Kutlu is also on to bring fresh legs into the middle of the park for Galatasaray.

Gabriel Sara makes way.

OK, I may have misjudged the situation.

Mauro Icardi went down and it looked like no one had touched him, but he has actually injured his knee.

It looks serious as he is in tears on the pitch, Fraser Forster is consoling him.

The stretcher is then brought out and Icardi has to be taken off. Never a nice thing to see.

Galatasaray are starting to waste time now, this is odd.

You have to remember that Tottenham only have 10 men, so you wouldn't think they would have to.

There will be no hat-trick for Victor Osimhen.

The striker is replaced by Kerem Demirbay, while Yunus Akgun comes off for Elias Jelert.

It looks like the hosts want to see this one out.

Another big chance goes begging for Galatasaray and Yunus Akgun.

This time the goalscorer is in on the lefthand side and he drills the ball across Fraser Forster.

It's a good effort again but it veers just wide of the post. That's now 27 shots for the hosts.

This game is just relentless, my word.

At one end Dominic Solanke is causing problems but the hosts then turn over the ball and head straight up the other.

Hakim Ziyech feeds through Mauro Icardi who finally finds the back of the net.

But he is miles offside.

Can he inflict more pain on Spurs?

That goal has really changed the dynamic of this game.

The hostile atmosphere seems to have dissipated and Tottenham are having much more of the ball.

Football is just mental, eh?

I really do have no idea how Tottenham are still in this match.

An instant impact from Dominic Solanke!

The striker proves he is worth risking as he brilliantly flicks home Pedro Porro's low cross to get Spurs back into this.

That is a lesson in why you need to take your chances while you are on top.

Ange Postecoglou has seen enough, he is bringing on the big guns.

Dominic Solanke and Pape Sarr are both on for the 10-men Tottenham as they hunt down two goals.

James Maddison and Lucas Bergvall are the pair that make way as Dejan Kulusevski is OK to continue.

Dejan Kulusevski is down holding his shoulder and this does not look good for Tottenham.

It comes after Spurs finally made their way up the pitch but the Swede is shoved off the ball by the byline.

He lands awkwardly and Tottenham need to hope this is not serious.

I just can't keep up with the amount of chances Galatasaray are being given.

The hosts are in once again and this time it takes a brilliant Fraser Forster save to keep the visitors in this match.

He flies across to push wide a sizzling effort from Yunus Akgun.

Will Lankshear's dream night turns into a nightmare.

The youngster is given a second yellow card for bundling over Gabriel Sara in frustration.

Tottenham were struggling with 11, so it;'s hard to imagine how bad this will get with 10.

An awful night for the Londoners.

Will Lankshear nearly makes the hosts pay for missing all of their chances in this half.

The ball comes to him in the box and he drives it toward the bottom corner.

But there is no power on the strike and Muslera collects easily.

Victor Osimhen really should have three by now.

Yet again, another big chance falls his way in the box and it seems certain he will score.

The striker gets a shot away at goal but Fraser Forster manages to divert it wide with his foot.

This is crazy...

It's like the Tottenham players have forgotten how to pass, this is unbelievable.

In a matter of moments, they give the ball away twice leading to chances that are not taken.

This is one of the worst performances I have seen from Ange Postecoglou's side.

Arguably, it's worse than Brighton.

It's just all going wrong for this Tottenham side.

Now it's Will Lankshear's name who goes into the book after a silly challenge.

Spurs are all over the gaff.

How are Tottenham still in this match?

Victor Osimhen really should have the match ball by now and he can't believe that he doesn't.

Dries Mertens spots him at the back post again and clips the ball over to him, but the striker heads over from close range.

I'm in disbelief that he's missed that, I thought it was a certain goal.

Yunus Akgun comes so close to netting his second screamer of the match.

It's like a replay of the first half as the ball falls to him and he sets himself.

Once again, Akgun strikes the ball beautifully and it looks set to hit the back of the net again.

But Radu Dragusin gets his body in the way to deflect it wide.

Pure chaos!

Tottenham are all over the place at the start of this second half and Fraser Forster is having a mare.

The goalkeeper is in no-mans land from a free-kick and it's pinball inside the area.

But luckily for the keeper, Rodrigo Bentancur is there to hook it out of danger.

Not the best of impacts from Dejan Kulusevski.

It takes the substitute just three minutes to pick up a booking after coming on at the break.

It's a bit harsh as he only bundles Victor Osimhen over.

What is going on?

Spurs have not learned their lesson and give up two chances inside 30 seconds of this second half.

Luckily for them, Mauro Icardi can not finish either of them.

Whatever was said by Ange Postecoglou at half-time obviously hasn't got through to them.

Son Heung-Min and Brennan Johson have not come out for the second half...

They have been replaced by Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur after the break.

There was a standing ovation fo Galatasaray at half-time. They have been very impressive and blown Spurs away. Osimhen looks lethal in front of goal, he could have had five goals. Ange has to soothe a few shredded nerves before the second half.

Does Will Lankshear remind you of anybody?

I'm sure the youngster will draw comparisons to the Tottenham legend Harry Kane after this match.

There is a reason why.

At 19 years old, Lankshear is Tottenham's youngest goalscorer in major European competition since Kane.

The now Bayern striker netted against Shamrock Rovers in the 2011-12 Europa League, while he was 18 years old.

This could be the start of a special career.

Galatasaray are so well drilled with Icardi and Osimhen, and it's causing Tottenham all sorts of trouble.

It wasn't all bad for Tottenham in that first half...

While the scoreline is not in their favour, at least a certain Will Lankshear has shown what he is all about.

The 19-year-old netted his first senior Spurs goal in the first half and it was a real poachers finish.

Whatever the result is today, it's been a match to remember for the youngster.

My word, what a half Victor Osimhen just had.

The striker had the ball in the net three times but only two of them have counted.

He really is having a field day.

Osimhen's two strikes were both really well taken and on another day he could even have had three or four.

While Victor Osimhen has been flying, Mauro Icardi seems to have lost his shooting boots.

The ball falls his way yet again but unlike his strike partner, he can't get his effort on target.

Forster rushes out and smothers the striker brilliantly. He should really score, though.

The forward gets a little excited as he approaches the Tottenham area and decides to have a pop.

It's an ambitious effort and he ends up blazing the ball miles over the bar.

This Tottenham backline has been really poor tonight.

The visitors had just got away with one and then only two minutes later allowed Victor Osimhen another chance.

If they keep playing like this, it could get messy.

There is no ruling this one out!

Vicor Osimhen takes less than two minutes to find the back of the net once again, and his celebrations aren't stopped this time.

Radu Dragusin is caught out and suddenly the ball is rolled through to Osimhen.

The striker then arrows it across Fraser Forster and into the bottom corner in some style.

This place erupts again!

Rams Park erupts again but their joy is shortlived.

The ball is clipped into the far post from deep and Victor Osimhen slices it home.

He wheels away in celebration but then realises the flag is up 0- he was miles offside.

Osimhen disagrees, but sadly for him, VAR won't overturn this one.

The momentum is well and truly back with Galatasaray after a spell of Tottenham pressure.

The hosts just get in behind so easily, it's like they don't even have to try.

Tottenham need to find a way to stop it from happening or they will be punished again.

How are Galatasaray not back in front?

The Turkish side have two great chances to re-take the lead in a matter of seconds.

First Victor Osimhen tries to arrow the ball toward the bottom corner but Fraser Forster manages to palm it out.

But the ball only goes as far as Dries Mertens who you just expect the ball to be bent into the back of the net.

It's not, though, and Mertens fires wide.

The silence didn't last too long.

Tottenham are now playing the much better stuff and it means the Galatasaray fans are constantly jeering them.

It seems like Spurs have settled in this atmosphere, though. They are strutting their stuff now.

Or just score an equaliser, that will help too. Lankshear's first for the club and he had the bottle to pose in front of the Gala fans with his arms spread wide.

What a moment for young Will Lankshear!

The youngster silences Rams Park as he taps home from just yards out before wheeling away in celebration.

Archie Gray launches a stunning over-the-top ball to Brennan Johnson who squares it for Lankshear to finish.

Out of absolutely nowhere, Spurs are level.

The brilliant early goal has the home crowd fired up here. if we thought it was loud before then its gone off the scale since. Spurs have to weather it without conceding again and try to establish some possession...

I knew this atmosphere would be loud, but even this is exceeding my expectations.

It's absolutely bonkers, it's hard to think about anything other than the noise.

It doesn't seem like Spurs are coping with it.

Tottenham are already clinging on here...

Yunus Akgun tries again from distance and it's not too far away, but it doesn't really worry Fraser Forster.

Spurs are like a deer in the headlights at this moment of time, they are buckling under the pressure.

They somehow just need to stay in this game.

Ohhhhhh...

Tottenham are all over the place at the back, they just can't cope with Galatasaray.

Victor Osimhen closes down Fraser Forster after a poor back pass and gets cleaned out.

He wants a penalty but after a VAR check, we play on.

A bolt out of the blues from Galatasaray takes the roof off of Rams Park.

The ball pops up to Yunus Akgun outside the area and he volleys it straight into the top corner.

Brennan Johnson feeds him in behind and he is one-on-one with Fernando Muslera.

The striker goes into the box but fluffs his lines and then the offside flag goes up anyway.

A decent start from the visitors.

This is such an intimidating atmosphere.

The Galatasaray fans boo at the top of their lungs as soon as Spurs get the ball.

But as soon as their side have it, the chants are deafening. You can barely hear yourself think in here.

As the teams do their final huddles, the stadium jeers in unison, bar the away fans.

There is then supposed to be a moment of silence for the victims of the Valencia floods, but it's not observed by everyone...

The 22 players are now out of the tunnel and can see the thousands of noisy Galatasaray fans around them.

They all fall silent to listen to the Europa League anthem, though. I mean, it is a banger.

Will Lankshear starting for Spurs as he did in Budapest against Ferencvaros to give Dominic Solanke a breather. Solanke one of those who has played a lot of minutes recently with Richarlison injured again.

Lankshear is 19, signed from Sheffield United who took him out of Arsenal’s academy. He was prolific last season for Tottenham’s U21s and this should be an experience he will not forget.

Galatasaray do not enjoy playing English sides, that's for sure.

The Turkish side have won just one of their last six meetings with English teams, losing three of those matches.
